    Many people recommend "using SAP" but SAP have a lot of software products.


    When you hear people talking about "using SAP" what are they referring to?

    They are usually talking about the biggest ERP / integrated business process system software in the world. It's large and can be complex and meets the needs of Multinationals e.g Coke, IBM , Google , Unilever, Colgate all run their businesses end to end on this. Often the software version was known as R/3 or ECC, most recent versions are called HANA which can also be cloud based.

    I believe the have a smaller business system called SAP business One, but most FI roles are for the larger product.

    It absolutely did not meet the needs of a large multi-national I worked in for a while, it was just the most complicated heap of junk ever, and the company spent millions on it

    When I previously worked for Sage, one of their accounting applications had the same acroym, Sage Accounts Production. It was extremely popular in Ireland.

    Fully agree. Worked in practice for a number of years, had nothing but problems every single time.

    The Sage people employed to install couldn't even install it correctly. Helpline admitted that 1/7 users had difficulty using the product, hence the expensive support.

    Get quick books installed over 50 in my time, and few issues.

    What is the use case for SAP or the background to the question?, SAP is a large german multi national and as stated 70% of the top 100 companies in the world run on SAP.

    SAP has a core ERP system called ECC or R3, the new version is called S4 and sits on a HANA Database. You can have a HANA database with the old ECC or R3 system.

    The extra systems are bolt on that are normally specific to different industry (chemical/pharma/industrial etc...)
