New Public services card

    Just wondering could anyone answer this for me. I received a new public service card today as my old one is due to expire. I've noticed the new card has no chip on it like the old one? Is this normal for the new cards? Any help appreciated.

    i dont believe they need a chip if not being used for free travel?

    I got mine yesterday, I think the date breach case taken against the state is why the card has been de-chipped, there is info in the swipe strip on the back.

    A new Public Services Card just received last week has an expiry date in 2030. The gov.ie website (https://psc.gov.ie/questions/) and Citizens Information website say the card has a validity period of up to 7 years. Has the validity period for these cards been extended now to 10 years? Or is there a difference for new and replacement cards? This particular card is a replacement for one which expired this year.
