Well if that's the case and you can't change it then keep it. But drive at 100kph on the motorway instead of 130. You'll save a lot on fuel and the difference in time to your commute will be insignificant.

I had a very productive day, I went to halfords and bought the autoglym restoration kit, unfortunately, they don't have the parking lights you mentioned, instead they offered me the off-road LED blue lumen lights, I managed to install the parking lights but the socket was rusty and the lights won't come on, and I thought, what if I sprayed WD-40 to get rid of the rust and guess what it worked brilliantly hahaha.

On the other hand, the autoglym did well with polishing the lights and getting rid of the yellowish stuff on the surface but I am disappointed that the oxidation have reached the inside.

Overall, I was satisfied white parking lights. When I was looking through the headlight bulbs I saw an H4 off-road white/blue light, Will I fail the NCT if I install it?

Off-road lights means they are not road legal. Other than being illegal on a public road and failing the NCT they can be blinding to other road users.

Oh my!? How about the parking lights can I leave it like that?

If its the capless 5w bulb holder most motor stores should carry replacement ones, think i saw them in Autocare as they stock odd things
It will come with a short length of cable which is attached to the old one when cut and stripped.

I would go back with those bulbs as said not road legal.
Some cars headlamps get so bad cleaning does not work and when replaced let there be light.
White headlamps will fail, but if you can see through it and see the bulbs a better chance of passing.

Yes, the bulb holder was rusty as hell.

    Needs replacing then.

I took the photo 3 nights ago just to show the difference between osram and standard bulb.

    Only a slight difference.

I’d say your lenses are making them look yellow.

Yep, I used the Autoglym Restoration kit and it worked on the outside but it is the inside one I can't clean and i do not want to open the headlights now and do further more damage :(

All you can do is the outside cleaning as inside you cannot get to and reflectors also tarnish.

This is the photo, before & after I used the autoglym, I am not quite sure if I managed to sand and polish the headlights enough because my electric drill runs out of battery and I just used my hands.

I think I will give it another go polish before I put it for retest.

I am thinking about putting in an exhaust tip resonator, where can I get one for the ford fiesta? 😅

I was coming off the ramp to merge into N3, and it was quite dark and I saw a speed van but there was no lights coming from it, I am pretty sure my speed was between 80-90km/h. I am worried if I was speeding.

You can only wait to see if you get an envelope in your mail,i thought i was caught but lucky not. What was the speed limit from exiting the slip road as some say 100kmh to match the speed on the road.
Was the van parked in its special zone or driving on the road.No lights suggest parked?

    Hi all,

Most of the guys at work advice me to try and get a new car, their argument was that instead of keep going back to the garage for repairs and spending money I should just finance a car particularly a hybrid to save money because the car will be quite new and there will be no headaches but I am trying to work it out on my head, I don't really see the point of paying 200-500 monthly instalments compare to buying a car worth 1 grand and keep it running. At the moment I am not really spending that much on car repairs only the basic maintenance like lights, oil change, batteries, brakes and tyres. What you think?

Tell the guys at work to go spend their own money and leave yours alone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,289 ✭✭✭greasepalm

Have you asked the other guys what have they spent on their cars.?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 808 ✭✭✭FrankC21

No, but one of them owns a bmw 3 series 2010 and he suggested that I should get a hybrid, a bit newer model. The other guy owns a 2015 Juke he also suggest that I should ditched the fiesta because he thinks i will just waste my money on repairs because its old.

The juke guy spent 500euro a month financing it he bought it brand new, I mean that is a waste of money 500euro per month.

The bmw guy spent almost a grand to replace a lights or something. That is just ridiculous amount of money.

I moved from a 2002 Peugeot 406 diesel to a 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-in a few years back. I halved my running costs (incl. maintenance), but with the cost of the car (and loan) it's actually costing about twice as much per mile - and that's not taking into account depreciation!

The reality was I wanted something newer and not a diesel, and I could afford it - it was not an exercise in saving money.

I use Spritmonitor to track all my costs: https://www.spritmonitor.de/en/

Personally, if I was doing that kind of regular long commute I'd want a bigger car, but for comfort more than anything else - I found small cars a lot more tiring to drive on motorways, and my Fiesta (albeit a Mk4) would do my back in on long trips. But again, it won't save you any money.

outside of mechanical maintenance, from a bodywork perspective, if you can, park it indoors: garage, shed, car port. Keeping the weather off it has a big effect as the car will get to dry out.

As for changing it for a new one: look, the cheapest car you'll ever own is....the one you own already. My eldest got an 197k kms 06 Clio a year ago and put another 20k on it already. Like yours, has all the big stuff done, and I see no reason to not get to 300k with it.

Change cars if YOU want to, like to. But never 'cos someoene else 'thinks' you should.

I am having second thoughts about the fiesta, I was driving yesterday towards, Drogheda, I got stuck in the traffic M50 around J6 for 40 mins, it took me 2hrs to get to Drogheda and went back again. This morning when I woke up my legs and lower back are killing. I had to work half day today. I used about 50% of the fuel, it was full tank when I left.

I am thinking I will be moving to Drogheda soon and I have to travel back and forth to Dun Laoghaire on my fiesta.

Cruise control is a necessity now for long commutes. One of the top options if not the top option. Not every small car will have it but it is becoming fairly standard from mid 2010s onwards.

Do you think my car's shock absorbers are going out, because I can feel every vibration, especially potholes and humps on the road.

I would listen to anyone that owns a Juke.
