It took me a long time to figure that one out and that's because I originally thought it was a dinosaur.

Its kind of like what would these people know about the blues ? Blues is all about hardship and how tough you have it. Its like sweet little female creche teachers belting out gangsters paradise or something.
Never sounds funny when its explained, sorry :pac::pac:
    Perfect explanation:)

Fave is probably the monster under the bed terrified in case there is a child on top of the bed. :D:D

Or the invention of the monster snorkel which lets you breathe safely under the duvet without exposing any part of yourself.

Loved the one of the two apes dancing in the middle of the jungle, one says to the other "Oh I thought you asked if I'd like a mango"

Another one I love is: the author of Moby Dick struggling in candlelight to write the opening of his mastepiece, and surrounded with all these balled up pieces of paper saying "Call me Larry", "Call me Mike", "Call me Warren" etc.

Wow! I had an inkling a thread on the hilarious cartoons of Gary Larson would be popular on AH, but not to this extent! :D

I’m going to have to just up my game on devising an even more popular thread for the new decade....:pac:

I miss my Farside fix, I used to get the day-by-day desk calendars but think I saw all the cartoons twice.

Switched to The New Yorker, occasional cartoons have a Farside vibe e.g.

    Why'd he quit doing them?

the pressure of coming up with something new every single day was too much and he was afraid the quality was dropping.

Oh yeah, Larson is magic, one of the greatest ever. These days I also like Stephan Pastis' "Pearls Before Swine" and Nathan Pyle's "Strange Planet".

    You say you like Larson.

    But yet.

I acquired a taste for Gary Larson from my ex.wife and still have loads of books, calendars etc. that I never get tired of. I always find something new in them. Here's a couple from the 2005 calendar. Great thread!! :D

I always loved his stuff. Have so many of his books, my favorite being the pre-history of the far side where he talks about failed concepts, unpublished cartoons and controversies as well as scientific errors he made in some cartoons (e.g. play bears and penguins together in the same panel).

There was one that always made me laugh: like a sex phone line for dogs and it was a cat giving a graphic description along the lines of being stuck with a broken leg in broad daylight and nowhere to run.

There is such a brilliantly surreal innocence to a lot of the gags.
