I remember Ewan basically stopped short of calling Shane Lowry a fascist during the Summer, drudging up some quote from a few years ago where he dead batted a question about playing golf with Trump, the same week he had an article saying Megan Rapinhoe was only attacking Trump to further her brand, the fella must have a bad back with all the time he spends moving goalposts.

He had to back down on that one fairly quick. Absolutely nobody was having it.

I think he actually did call him a fascist supporter and then doubled down when challenged on it. I think he said it the day after he won the Open. Sums the guy up really

Bit bleeding sick of hearing about Premier sports......

I think it’s funny. They can’t not talk about it, one of their hosts is the face of Premier League coverage and gets to hang out with known former players for hours every week, that’s easy and good content. It’d be weird if they didn’t mention it and we’d feel like he was holding stuff back. Also the self-deprecating tone they take with it is spot on for what Premier is, and it also makes me interested in actually watching to get context for whatever story will follow on the show later in the week, so it’s good marketing too.

He went ott on Lowry, while having a certain point about speaking truth to especially odious power. Thought the interview was good, he's been absolutely bang on about McGregor, like he is on a lot. Continues to annoy all the right, wrong people.

Going to the show tonight, anyone know what time it actually starts? Ticket says 7-10 which seems a bit long, assuming it'll be around 8?

Tbh it disappoints me a little when SC default to trolls like McKenna or Dave Hannigan, who just say controversial things to make up for lack of substance. They’re the type of people who, if they didn’t move in the same circles, you know the lads would make fun of because that kind of attention-seeking, lowest-common denominator stuff is what they largely avoid and that’s why people listen to them. I think Marcotti is the right side of that line, he’ll say unpopular things but he’s at least able to substantiate it (and you can tell he actually believes and feels strongly about what he’s saying too). Whereas McKenna and Hannigan seem to know they’re blagging it and fold/throw their toys out of the pram at the first sign of any reasonable pushback. And they don’t have the wink-and-nod likeability of a Dunphy, who’s fully aware he’s on a wind-up mission and is quite skilled going about it.

What claim or claims made by McKenna do you feel he has particularly not substantiated?

He insinuated an Irish rugby player was on drugs without an iota of evidence to support this

If it's the same rugby player I'm thinking of, that player did plenty of self-insinuation (is that a thing? Am stuck for a better term, it'll do for now) in his own book, and markedly failed to answer questions put to him on it by another journalist.

There's a plethora of evidence to support that claim. Kimmage has been banging that drum for years and recently enough outlined all the evidence in a piece. It's quite convincing.

    Read my last post.

I said MacKenna made a claim about a current player off a rumor he probably heard on whatsapp

Okay, I hadn't seen that, that's way OTT! If he didn't retract that, he ought to, unless he has something pretty concrete to stand up such a personal attack.

He's certainly abrasive, and I'm not sure I'd much enjoy his company of an evening in the boozer. That said, he's 100% on Dublin GAA funding, Man City, McGregor and other topics.

agree to disagree on the Dublin GAA part, I believe his heart is in the right place on some topics as he is always on a crusade but he quickly makes things personal and loses all credibility and to be honest he comes across as a nasty piece of work (I dont know him so can only perceive his actions on twitter). Miguel Delaney is similar but not as odius (pardon the pun:D:P)

I dont like podcasts like SC having him on as it just gives him oxygen, they are better on that and I would hate to see them go down that road

He's constantly deleting tweets when he's proven to be wrong or he's just gone on a drunken rant too.

Also he liked someone else's tweet justifying some sportsman (can't remember who) getting stabbed.

he's a moron end off. I'd expect a better calibre of guest on SC.

A smarmy know-it-all imo. Then he has his like lapdog Miguel following him around Twitter chiming in to support him. A pair of clowns.

Anyone at the live show last night?

Think Jack McCaffrey was on last night. Anything said about the Dublin manager situation? Be strange if it wasn’t mentioned

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 457 ✭✭Obrieski

Also a new conspiracy theory...does Ken hate US Murph? Maybe hate is the wrong word, but not tolerate maybe..?

Yup, thought Jack McCaffrey was brilliant, funny lad

Brought US Murph up then as Jack wanted to meet him but it was a only short talk, mostly about the 49ers, he was funny as well

Then there was a talk between Ken, Sinead O'Carroll and Jerry Flannery about why football fans like seeing the rugby team lose, funny topic at first but then it got serious and got into social classes and stuff, thought it was a bit too serious for the live show, expected everything to be more light-hearted

Murph did his guide to the weekend then but they actually had Francis Murphy sitting in the crowd, got a good cheer

Didn't say anything of note I think, was on about how Jim Gavin has been the most important person in his life for the last few years outside of his family

Why do you think that? Can't actually recall ever hearing them interact. Just thought that was because Ken's almost exclusively the football guy.

I think all Ken cares about is football and politics, anything other than that and he's just not interested

Ken doesn't like american sports. Think thats all it is.
