Accessing Prep

Hi guys, I’ve been getting Prep all along and all was fine when I had to pay for it but now that it’s being paid by the HSE my pharmacy don’t seem to know what to do. I’ve applied for my drug payment scheme card but does the pharmacy have to apply to dispense the drug? They don’t really know what they’re doing. They’re saying I have to apply online to be eligible to get it or something?

You need to be prescribed free PrEP by one of the approved providers

Then, if you have your DPS card or a medical card, the pharmacy need to call PCRS to verify.

When you are prescribed PrEP from an approved clinic, you are registered with the HSE PCRS, or Primary Care Reimbursement Service. This is the system that allows the HSE to make payments to pharmacists (and other healthcare professionals) for the free service they provide to the public.

The pharmacy will need to call PCRS (Pharmacy Function) on 01 864 7100 extension 7231 to confirm that you are registered with PCRS and to confirm that you have been clinically approved for PrEP. Once confirmed, the pharmacy can dispense the prescription and will be reimbursed.

Great stuff thanks. Of course the problem I'm having is we don't have a clinic down here in Cork which is madness. So we have to pay for it while other areas of the country get it for free.

I started prep on the programme recently. The pharmacy didn't really have a clue about the programme and we're trying to charge me â‚¬90 for a months prescription. I have the dps card and they eventually agreed not to charge me. This was a large pharmacy chain in Dublin
