As the ESB will be charging a fee from Monday, will there be a rush to the pumps to Top Up on Sunday ala budget day with the petrol/diesel lol

It wouldn't surprise me, based on Facebook comments, I'm also expecting a number of cheap EVs to hit the market from all those people who think paying €150 a year extra on their home electricity bill will destroy EV driving.

What sort of commentary is coming through?

Are "da locals" up in arms at the cheek of eCars charging them for it?

What morons they would be if they do.

Nearly every single charge point I passed in Athlone tonight was busy! I didn’t need a charge thankfully but you’d be In bother if you did.

So I charged in Cashel yesterday on the way back from cork.
    What a faff.

We used the Tesla Superchargers on the way down but decided to try Ionity on the way back as we were low on juice and a 5-90% charge is only 8 quid vs much more at Tesla 29c/kWh.

After 5 attempts (following the instructions on the charger in the rain!) we finally got to charge, only after calling the helpline who said to ignore the charger instructions and instead pay first and then connect. Worked first time after that.

Compared to the "plug and play" Tesla experience this was such a nonsensical faff and poor user experience.
As a seasoned EV owner I was frazzled yesterday - I can only imagine if this was your first EV how off putting it would be!

Yeah, I think the best instructions with Ionity are to not follow their instructions. Think Bjorn even met an Ionity guy and he said something similar.

Why didn't you use the Maingau / Bosch app?

I thought they charged by kWh and I wanted the flat fee... I went from below 5% to 95% - we got delayed in the deli.

I did find out however that shell/newmotion would have worked. Anyway I know for future. I prefer the Tesla network but the Ionity location is better suited for the way back, and there's one 20km from the outlaws in wexford so I better get used to it.

Also, for a long charge, 8Euro is brilliant compared to say 20 quid for 70+kWh at 29c/kWh at Tesla!

Third time in 2 months charging at Ionity Moate. Was there again for 45 minutes. No one else charged in that time. Great service and worked great but I would not like to have to make the next business report to the bank manager if I owned it.

Yes, we funded network expansion and drove an uptick in EV sales through our loss leader network.

Had exact same experience over Halloween at Cashel. You have to pay first with the IONITY app and it worked straight away. Ignore instructions charger!

Just setup the ionity app, only one charger available out of 12 currently.

Is it better to use the ionity app or the Maingau / Bosch app?
    Just a differences in prices?

Just checked the app there. Just one occupied out of the twelve.

If you need more than 18kwh use Ionity (I can't be arsed with their app and just use my Plugsurfing card)

If you need less that 18kwh use Maingau

Ionity can be very good value, I loaded 72kwh one day, great value for 8 euros.

I downloaded the app but couldnt get it to set up

EDIT: Now it works, when I'm not at the charger getting drenched!!

I was the same, 5% to 95% in my S90D for 8 euro!
They are great for Tesla, IPace etc owners

    Thanks that's useful.
So many apps, I like VWs new idea for the WeConnect scheme.

Did you switch to a different unit?

I had similiar issues with Cashel too (ioniq). IIRC, unit #3 had supply issues only dishing out about 30kW, #2 just failed during the handshake while finally unit #1 worked without issue. Hopefully it's just the Cashel site that's flakey.

No, consistent on unit 4. I was conscious that each "try" logged an 8 euro charge!

You've obviously never used the We Connect app from VW!!!

It's shocking bad, only works every now and then and can be down for days at a time.

It's basically the same idea Renault had with the ZE Pass app for Zoe owners is it? (This is now known as the Bosch Charge My EV app)

Not sure if it's much of a useful update, but at the VW ID3 event yesterday, the VW guys said the 3 Ionity stations currently being built will be opened in a few weeks.

If somebody is missing a MAINGAU card there is one beside the third IONITY charger in Gorey. Once I head back out il throw it behind the counter in the garage though if nobody comes back for it by then.

That was my wife - thanks a million, I happened to see this, had an inkling, called her and she’s just collected it on her way back. Thanks again.

I’ve an hour to clean the house....

I tried using my manigau card at the Ionity near Athlone today and it wouldn’t work. Had to connect through the app and it took two attempts to charge. I see there’s 2 x €8 transactions on my bank account as well.

That’s a right pain in the ass, not good enough from Ionity. Surely there must be some way you can request a refund

I believe you can, and they are quite good at refunding errors.

It's a bit ridiculous that it is happening so much though.

I just checked my app and it’s says I’m still charging! 501minutes charging. Any idea what to do? I stopped my charge by pressing the buttons on the screen like it tells you to do.
