Best oil to lubricate door lock and key

Have new door key and lock. Key is a copy and very rough. Is WD40 the answer? Have read contradictory things about it eg it attracts dust. Yet when i used it in the past it was great. Need something i can get easily in shops.

While I'm at it. Anything i csn use on shelves in a drawer that are difficult to open? Very tight.

I use WD40 twice a year for external locks etc good stuff considering our damp climate

3in1 oil is best for locks and mechanism.
Although WD40 acts as a good initial lubricator, it tends to lose efficiency much quicker than oil.
As for the key, rub a pencil lead up and down the key.

WD40 and wet oils will eventually gum up the lock. Graphite powder is the only way to go.

Check your lock maker. I have ABS avocet and they strongly recommend not to use oil or silicone lubricants. I got graphite powder on AliExpress for next to nothing and it worked really well. Just put some on the key and work it in and out of the lock.

I never heard of this graphite powder stuff. Can i get it on Woodies and places like that?

I'm not sure, but I picked up some in McQuillan's of Capel street last year. I'm pretty sure any proper locksmith's should have it otherwise...

I find silicone spray great stuff for locks, sliding doors, car door windows (if slow going up or down) car seatbelts if slow retracting, and doesn't gum up or gather dirt like wd40

No, small plastic container, the size of a large childrens glue bottle, with a pointed plastic top for direct application. Coudn't get it anywhere out West so picked it up through Amazon.

Look, not to be smart but have you tried searching for silicone spray on the woodies website? It's a good site, I just did, and before I got to silic- it showed up on my screen

I've used the rub a pencil on the key trick a few times.

If you know anyone with a motorcycle see if they'll let you spray a bit of chain oil into the lock. The good bike stuff doesn't attract so much dirt (crucial on Irish roads).

You can make it yourself. Get a pencil and crush the lead, it's graphite.

Be careful about using silicon spray. Some lock makers specifically advise not to use it.
You will easily get graphite powder on amazon or aliexpress, but if you are stuck and in a hurry, as other people posted above graphite is the part of the pencil that we usually call "lead". If you get a soft pencil (B, or 2B from eason) and rub it on your key, then work it in and out of the lock, and repeat that process a few times, you will get a similar result.
