I just presume i need one as im wearing glasses. Can I apply without an eye test?

When i passed my car test i didn't have to get an eye test done as it was done when i got my provisional licence (yes it was that long ago) Whereas now i must get an eye test every 5 years by a certified optician if i want to hold my commercial licences.

You provided an eyesight report when you applied for your learner permit so you don’t need another.

that only applies for truck and bus licences. For B licences you just declare that you require glasses and they will add the 01 code to the licence.

Congrats to every else who has posted that they passed. I passed this morning in Wilton. So delighted. It was my first attempt. I got five grade 2 errors, all in different categories. So great to have that monkey off my back.

Well done. Wilton is considered the hardest test Centre in Cork to get a pass. Just remember you are still a learner on a learner permit until you receive your full licence. Best to just do a walk in appointment at the NDLS rather than booking an appointment.

Thanks Cork trucker. Need alot more driving experiencefor sure. I did alot of lessons so I think that stopped me slipping into bad habits. Hopefully a long life of safe driving awaits me!

Well done! I passed on Friday and applied that day. My licence was at my door by the following Friday.

Just about passed this morning at the 5th attempt with 8 grade twos. I was worried that I'd never pass. Great sense of relief.

Passed this morning. 3 grade 2's...1 for clutch (stalled out at a roundabout), 1 for observation (not sure which maneuver this was for tbh) and 1 for signalling (late signal at a roundabout). Overall he said it was very good, and i didn't really have anything to work on.

I actually thought i had failed it, even though i thought it went really well. He wasn't marking anything on his tablet, so i assumed i'd made a massive fault at the start and he didn't need to mark it anymore. And when we went back inside, by god he made me wait a while before he said anything. The relief when he said it was good news was unreal, and i am absolutely delighted now.

    Relief :D

Gonna go in to get my licence tomorrow. A few questions for you knowledgeable people.
    • Do i get the licence straight away, or is it posted out to me?
    • Am i able to insure my car immediately now, or do i have to wait for my licence? Does your driver number change from provisional to full?
    • Tax has to wait for the insurance, so hopefully i don't have to wait too long.
    • Do i need a medical report for my eyesight? I wear contacts, and it says that on my provisional, but do i need a new one?

Licence is posted out in about 2 weeks or less.

You can buy a car whenever.

They might ask for an updated eyesight report, €30 in spec savers

    Congratulations btw :)

    Thanks :D

Have the car already, so i think i should be able to insure it, i just think i'd need my driver number or some sort of proof i have my licence. I really don't want to wait 2 weeks before i can even start the insurance/tax process, though i obviously will if i have to.

Might just get the updated eyesight report in the morning in that case, and bring it in with me.

The driver number remains the same. You can drive straight away but legally are still under learner permit rules. When I got my bike licence this year though the insurer wouldn’t update their system until I got the physical licence

Passed this morning on second attempt. Three Grade 2s (9 on first attempt), delighted. Genuinely feel the drive wasn't dramatically better than the first attempt lol, felt alot more comfortable with the tester which helped a whole load. Delighted anyway :):)

You won't need another eyesight report, unless you want to take the restriction off.

Congrats Kiith! I didn't think you seemed too hopeful, when you already posted in the unsuccessful thread the evening before the test! :pac:

I'd ring your insurance tomorrow, tell them you've passed and at least they can advise you. You technically won't have a full licence though, until it's physically in your hand.

    Well done! :D

Congrats, i got my licence in 6 working days. My insurer dropped my insurance by 12%. Hopefully i will see a bigger reduction when i renew. The insurer needed sight of the full licence.

    Thanks all.

For anyone wondering, i was able to get my insurance ordered using the receipt i got from the NDLS centre this morning (using AIG). They asked me to upload that, and then upload my full licence once it arrives. So licence, tax and insurance ordered, and should hopefully be able to drive this time next week :D

Happy to say I passed my test in Finglas on Wednesday with 6 grade 1s and 4 grade 2s!
    I'm absolutely over the moon.
I failed in May of this year but I definitely didnt feel ready at the time and my nerves got the better of me! Plus I had only been driving 6 months at the time. My family and instructor were pushing me to apply so I did. I got 13 grade 2s the first time.

I made a point to not apply again until I felt ready. This time around I was a lot more confident and the tester was lovely. I felt at ease as soon as he started talking to me.
The grade 2s I got were for progress at traffic lights and turning left/right. I also cut out during my reverse and he only gave me a grade 1 for that.
Been reading here for the last few months, cheers everyone for the quality advice and info!
