The red line is what I have seen reported from multiple sources. Seems reliable. Yet to try it myself on Ionity though :)

The blue line - not so sure. Any time I fast charge on a 50kW CCS charger, I get about 50kW straight away, no matter how empty I am. Indeed all the way up to about the point in the graph (a bit under 80%) where it starts throttling

Not so sure where they are getting the 42-49kW range from...
Yes it's wrong, I have never seen less than 45-46kW into the car
Generally the efacec units show 52kW so allowing for losses it's still 48+

It could be the charger, one rapid I use occasionally, gives me 10 kW while all the others I have used put 17 kW into the car.

Has anyone ever seen it take 50 minutes to get from "zero" to 80% in an Ioniq??

Currently sitting in Ionity Cashel wondering just this unfortunately ;(

That's normal speed for those cars.

    80% of 64kWh in 54 min is 57kW average.

    60% of 64kWh in 42 min is 55kW average.
Following Bjorn's video of them charging on the 1000km challenge they should charge at 75-78kW to 57% SOC, then drop to 57kW until 73% SOC where they drop to mid 30's and then 22kW pretty quickly after that.

Average speed depends on what SOC was at the start and end I suppose.
Still pretty crap for something labelled as 100kW capable.
    It's a Korean car. Sorry unkel :)

    Hey BigAI81

I do the Dublin cork run and stopped in Cashel with the Ioniq about two weeks ago with about 14% having left from Dublin
Got similar poor speeds on charger no 4 afair
I moved the car to no 2 and it improved to the usual 60 kw + roughly .

I was using a Maingau card so starting a new session didn’t matter .

That’s the only time I had that problem out of say 7 or 8 sessions there now .

Are people reporting the problems with charger number 4 to Ionity?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,836 ✭✭✭dloob

Just noticed today that the ionity chargers are now showing up in my i3 satnav.
A nice feature, although I don't tend to use the satnav too much to find chargers.

Yeah the i3 map charger locator is pretty poor, Leaf was much better.

Looks like a day for charging to 100%. Some hard rain all day pretty much.

Yes, I rang them as had I another bad experience in Cashel on Sunday.

2 chargers were out of order, and these were of course the two good ones (number 1 and 2)!

One was iced, and number 3 was in use and slowly charging a car ;(

It's a long long way from the promised EV utopia I was hoping for!

I rang Ionity and logged my various issues from charger three and four on Friday. I requested a technician visit the site and he said he's logged the request and there's nothing he could do remotely. Let's see how that goes!

Eventually he was able to remote reboot the out of order machines and I got a successful charge (Via Ionity app, with PayPal as payment method)

Beware, Cashel will frequently be iced. I was there twice and car park was completely full with people going around in circles looking for somewhere to park.

Have never seen it iced any time I've been there. What makes it so busy?

A few more spaces are being taken at the moment. Some works going on.

Whenever I charge there (on the ecars charger, havent been there in an EV since the Ionity launch) it was very difficult to get a spot near the charger due to icing. It's a busy spot, seems like not enough spaces.

Athlone and Kill (x2) must be opening soon? Seems like they've been building them for quite a while now.

I thought Athlone opened a few weeks ago.

Sorry typo, I meant to say CityNorth on the M1, not Athlone!

I drove by it (CityNorth) yesterday. The concrete platform is in and the ducting for cables etc, but that's it. Will be a while yet I'd say.

I see the CCS connector on the free Circle K charger at Athlone is still marked as out of service with some cable ties preventing it from being removed from the charger. The Chademo charger is working fine.

I assume that it's not faulty, it's just blocked off to force CCS cars to use the Ionity chargers, at the request of Ionity.
They'd probably do the same at Cashel except the free CCS charger is an ESB one, not a Circle K one.

I'd say Ionity don't mind. More likely a driver of a Leaf CHAdeMO equipped vehicle had a moan.

So, bring scissors to use the free CCS?

I'd say it's more likely ecars couldn't be bothered repairing it when there is an alternative nearby. Rather than complaining from your fellow EV community.

So if I cable tie a fast charger, will people ignore it, and thus it will always be available for me to use? Just replace the cable tie after i'm done. :D

You'd have to get both DC plugs though ;)

The respect shown by Irish people to a cone is immense, so such a plan could work very well!

A cone and a high viz jacket, no one can argue then!

I don’t think that ever worked.

Athlone motorway services has no esb charger, just multiple Ionity and one circle k branded chademo and CCS charger (no AC). The CCS cable has been tied up for weeks now, which keeps the charger free for chademo users as there is no other chademo charger on site. I suspect cutting the ties may give a payment free charge when compared to ionity.

I suspect you are correct - but I'm not going to cut it :-)

Circle K can be contacted on social media, perhaps this could help them fix broken charger.
