Hardly the king. Any mediocre or worse QB on a team with issues will naturally stat pad as a result of how the game naturally goes.

Ryan has been doing it a bit recently. Bortles did it a lot. Look at Goff. Played terrible but 500+ yards.

For me Cousins is maybe a top 20 QB or so but has tended to be on weaker sides. I could see him putting together a Superbowl run with a great side but he won't drag a weak side over the line either like some of the greats can.

Yes it will lead some to overestimate his worth but that is their problem.

So a below average QB then?

Yet one with a top 6 salary.

In his last 10 starts, he is averaging 102 yards passing with 9 INTs and 12 fumbles in the first 3 quarters of a game.

Yesterday late in the game he was 20/27 for 150 yards. He then had a drive where he went 7/9 for 83 yards against a prevent D and his stat line ended up being 27/36 for 233. The king of stat padding.

The last 10 games the team has been run focused so it is hardly surprising numbers. Put any QB in a run first team and they are going to on average have low yardage in the first 3 quarters and then increased yardage in the forth quarter when they are playing from behind.

It is like pointing to David Johnson averaging 43 yards a game rushing this season and arguing he is a poor runner, ignoring the context of the Cardinals' game plan.

Yes, his yardage here is 'stat padded' in this game but so would any QB playing with a similar gameplan.

They're paying him $28m per year and don't trust him to throw is how I'm reading it.

Edit: I should probably also add that Cousins, Diggs and Thielen combined account for almost 30% of the Vikings salary cap.

Bradley Chubb has a torn ACL and is out for the season. Really feel bad for him - best defensive player on the team by far.

Broncos sent him back onto the field - twice - after he broke down in pain.

Hopefully this will force Elway into a full rebuild mode. CHJ has already checked out - saying last night that he didn't care he was out of Denver after another few games. Elway should now look to trade CHJ, Miller and Sanders before the deadline - and see what he has with Lock after the bye-week when he comes back from the injury.

I mean he is overpaid but it seems like if you don't develop your own QB talent you end up paying a massive premium. He is likely as good as it gets for the free agent market over the next few years.

The Vikings thought they had a Superbowl team and so tried to get a QB who could manage to guide the team along. They took a shot and it didn't pay off but I see why they did it. It is costing now though but a shot at the title is more than most have had recently.

I was just pointing out the stat padding argument is always a bit weird for me. It is the nature of the team as opposed to anything he is doing (aside from not being elite).

Miller's cap hit is 25m in 2020 and 22m in 2021. That's quite a chunk to take on.

Plenty of teams have the opposite problem, having way too much trust in a QB that isn't up to it and forcing them throw too much, their opponents this weekend the Bears with Trubisky being an example.

Even taking your lack of trust to be true, being a 'run first' team until it fails and then asking your QB to dig you out of a hole isn't really a good way to get a QB to succeed.

I think the Vikings had either no plan about how they wanted to play or have changed their plan completely and still went out and paid guys that don't fit into it. Last season they sacked their OC for not running the ball enough despite paying Cousins and Diggs, before still going and paying Thielen this summer.

Miller's contract was restructured last year - $8million of next year and almost $5million the following year has already been paid. The cap hit is $17M each year. For a sack master that is not a lot of money. Miller needs to be motivated and he will only do that on a team that has SB potential. Put him in the right team and he could get 20 sacks this season. He is going through the motions for the Broncos and still had a big first half last night.

The tragedy is Chubb - he has been playing flat-out all four games - and he was the one that got injured. I wouldn't be half as upset if Miller had been hurt instead.

God, I hate that QB wins stat.
I mean look at Rodgers last Thursday put up a stat-line of 422 yards, 2 TD's & an INT (which wasn't really his fault), yet it'll go down as a loss in his record despite doing everything possible to win the game, all the while when it was the run D primarily at fault.

I did acknowledge it was mostly in a poor team. It’s a team sport and not everything is on the QB but it’s an interesting stat all the same.

I like Cousins and I thought the Vikings made a good move at the time, albeit a very expensive one. They need to sort out that line if they ever want it to work. I know Chicago’s pass rush is excellent but the Vikings have to protect him better than they did last night.

Was gonna say, beyond questions about the ability of the QB, for both Chicago and Minnesota the o line is a way more urgent problem. Both teams were terrible in pass protection, and got worse as the game progressed. Certainly from a Chicago point of view, it's hard to see that anyone across the line really shone. Neither QB could either safely run out of the pocket or step up in it, they were under massive pressure.

Is it time for the Bengals to consider a firesale? Dalton's contract is no longer guaranteed. AJ Green is 31, injured and hitting free agency next year. They have a few players around the 30 mark that could be moved on.

They definitely need a new OL, it was sack after sack.
