How to slow down kitchen press door with self closing hinge

Hi folks

Hopefully the title says it all. See photo of the hinge in question. The door slams when I give it a push and hence the self closing hinge is not working properly. This has been happening for a little while now. All other similar doors in the kitchen are fine. I have searched the net and found plenty of tips about adjusting the position of the door but have found no help on how to reduce the closing speed of the kitchen press door. Any help on this would be great.

Adjusting the two screws above and below (as shown in the photo) the square hole should do it. It don't recollect the effect of each screw.

There may be two things you can do (a) slow the closing (b) stop the closing a millimeter from the cupboard frame.

Another option may be to put a piece of felt padding or similar to stop the door actually banging.

Afraid not Victor. The 4 screws on top of the pic only allow for movement along X Y Z axis. No damper control here as that function is integrated into the hinge and not adjustable as far as I know. You'll need a replacement.

Doesn't look like a soft close to me
You can get adjustable soft close versions. Free bird interiors and Peter millard did recent videos on the different types of these hindges

I thought the same Colm as they look just like regular hinges with no SC feature but reviews state that they are indeed SC. Hard to see how, I agree. OP stated that all other doors are fine. So I'm assuming same hinges are on the other doors.

you can just add the semi circular, clear rubber thingies to the two corners of the door and it should deaden the slamming noise.

Yes the same hinges are on the other doors and are working correctly

Replace the hinge. You should be able to pick up a replacement for a few euro, two minute job to replace.

You can also buy standalone soft closing mechanisms... just a plunger that you screw to the cabinet wall...

Are you sure that's the the soft closing hinge? Most of my presses have multiple hinges but only one of them is soft close or in the case of a large pantry press only two. They only install enough soft close hinges to gently close the door and avoid too much resistance that might stop the door closing.

Worth a look maybe if you haven't ruled that out.

I have those on some presses. They're a bit of a nusiance, sometimes snagging packets and cables when you most need them to come out/go back in smoothly. In last year's refit, I took out more than I put back.

I stuck one in the upper corner, opposite side to the hinges and had no issues...
tbh the rubber stoppers that I posted before do enough to stop the loud bang, even if the door still closes quickly. Its the bang thats annoying.

Yeah they are dampers, its just a little plunger basically.
They do look very similar to the push to open catches though!

Coming to this late...but for the record....

Our kitchen fitter charged us extra for an option of having soft close kitchen cabinet doors.

There's 2 hinges on each door.

But being so, so crafty he used one of each type of hinge on each door to save himself a few cent each time. (ie one non-soft close hinge each time)

When the damping mechanism fails the on hinge mechanism the door slams closed really loudly - as people are used to letting them fly as every other door is soft close....

Just unscrew the dud hinges bring into your local supplier and I'd recommend buying however many you need plus a few spares also for future usage.

TYpically this is how they are supposed to be used, you wouldnt want more than 1 soft close hinge on a door...

That's the way they are designed. But I would fit the blym onea you can turn off and turn one off
