    What the flip are they putting in a new heating system for given the age of the pair of them? Surely that's a total waste of money given that they'll never recoup the cost of it (in energy saved?).

    You could see the radiators all over the house, it probably has no insulation either, it makes sense for a couple that wants to grow old there. Let's face it, they aren't the youngest anymore, future-proofing the house makes sense and that means you keep the happy couple warm and cosy.

    Don't think so, he lives well within his means and he's low maintenance, loads of country people like this.

    If he was tight he wouldn't be putting €200K towards a house rebuild.
