Well what? Tighe has done more than anyone to expose the FAI's dealings and i would have no problem criticising him for buying tickets

The only way the FAI will take notice is if people stop attending the senior men's games. Otherwise all the criticism can and will be brushed off.

So what do the proponents of a boycott think would happen if it came to pass for the next few games? Please outline how it would lead to any significant changes

    1. No cash in the pot would mean no expenses...
    2. No expenses and freebies would mean a few would run.....
    3. No cash coming in would mean UEFA would ask deeper questions....
    4. UEFA asking deeper questions would mean more pressure....
    5. Lack of funds to repay UEFA...would mean UEFA wanting government money to get their money back....

    6. Government money means meeting government requirements....
    7. Government requirements means getting rid of the board and real governance

    Many more reasons....

The fact he is still getting paid by the entity that he ran into financial difficulty is absolutely crazy stuff.

He's an embarrassment to Irish football. He will go down as being rotten to the game.

If he had any bit of self respect he would have moved on himself by now.

Delaney clearly has no self respect, he's from that ilk of person that normally becomes a politician. Even if he walked now, he'd get no credit for it. He's gonna milk what he can from the coffers before he goes - and he'll try and wait until it dies down before he walks. It doesn't help that nobody with power is asking why he's still getting paid.

I think he knows that self respect doesn't pay the bills.

And having no self respect means sometimes you might get someone else to pay them for you.

FAI staff made to work at John Delaney’s lavish 50th birthday party https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/ireland/fai-staff-made-to-work-at-john-delaneys-lavish-50th-birthday-party-dl2zwl3sm
A number of FAI event staff were asked to help organise the party, but worked separately from Kelly. Some invitations to the party were sent out through an official FAI email account. Guests were asked to log in to a dedicated website to register whether they could attend. In his speech at the event, Delaney asked the crowd to give “my own staff” a round of applause for their work.

“My own staff have been absolutely brilliant,” he said. “This isn’t part of their jobs to organise 50th birthdays. They won’t be doing it again for a while, trust me.”

Ken Early: Why Irish football is stuck in a timewarp https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/soccer/ken-early-irish-football-fans-are-like-elderly-brexiteers-stuck-in-the-past-1.4011722 he contends it is/was Delaney's attraction to celebrity and big names over more modern managers/coaching methods.

I presume they are hoping by suspending him and looking for his wrong doings they can end up paying him less then trying to fire him quickly.

has there been periods of low attendance during Delaney's CEO term? (for competitive matches) is there complete attendance figures in handy spreadsheet any where? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matches_of_the_Republic_of_Ireland_national_football_team https://www.sportseconomics.org/sports-economics/the-empty-aviva notes that tickets sold may not equal attendance

Delaney's FAI used to give away thousands of free tickets to schoolboy clubs/sponsors etc to conceal poor attendances so we will never know the answer to your question

This might seem old fashioned but you are allowed to say no to kids and you don’t have to justify yourself to them

First thing that came to my mind, what's about to blow up.

Cockroaches like these find it hard to release power until it's very clear to them it's time to f**k off into the sun set

    Huge pay-off I’ve been told.

And there was me thinking this was a bad day for Irish sport.

Let's hope they don't dream up some other position for him.

Ah here FFS. If that's the punishment what is to stop the next one

Both parties have agreed to make no further comment.

So much for transparency. The new FAI doesn't seem that much different from the old one.

Is this going to be the line whenever questions about the severance package are raised?

That's the way these things work.....

This thread is funny to read those who were defending Delaney for some bizarre reason.

More than likely. Non disclosure agreements probably, a pay off and pension for him to ride off into the sunset after bleeding Irish football dry. Give it time and the "new FAI" will have another puppet to replace him so they can carry on where they were before all these stories broke back in March.

    From RTE:

A statement released on Saturday night read: "The Board of the Football Association of Ireland announces the resignation with immediate effect of Executive Vice President and former CEO John Delaney.

"This follows talks between the parties. The FAI will fulfil certain notice and pension obligations as agreed between the parties.

"Mr Delaney served as CEO of the FAI from 2005 to March of 2019 during which time the FAI became partners in the new Aviva Stadium.

"In 2017, he was elected to the UEFA Executive and in March of this year, he moved to a role of Executive Vice-President of the FAI."

Damned, not with faint praise, but with no praise at all. That's as terse as you could get. They might as well have said "and take your damn horse with ya!"
