I think we can officially say goodbye to the "Black and Amber" in Islandbridge now.

I think we can officially say goodbye to the "Black and Amber" in Islandbridge now.

Licence only re-appeared a year or so ago; assigned to Kennedy Wilson. Wouldn't be surprised if they transferred it to what is going to be Brewdog at their other development (Capital Dock) but we'll see if anything happens here.

There's planning in to convert the former Blacker/Liz Delaneys at Northside to a gym now.

did the blacker licence appear elsewhere?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 72,849 ✭✭✭✭L1011

Unless a court reporter bothers to take note of the source of a transfer and report it there's no easy way to find out - and I've a Google alert set up for any mention of the licencing court. Could make the freesheets that aren't online easily enough though.

It's not on the renewed register right now but it might not even have been transferred out yet.

Lidl and Aldi would be the biggest consumers of licences for new off licences I'd guess
Edit: followed by Paddy McKillen Jr!

Anyone know if the Anchor in Rialto is closed or just somehow deciding to take a busy sporting day off?

Few months ago, proper chef behind it. Better than its brief opening last year as a fake German Christmas beerhall!

McCloskeys is still open despite all the impending doom and surely Kielys isn't actually a loss? :pac:

Arthur Maynes in Donnybrook is still running. Only place in Dublin that sells beer from Rising Sun Brewery apparently.

They're running a temporary shop out of the loading area at the back! Reverting back to Sweeney's branding that it had >10 years ago

Quite poor reviews of the food though. The Old Spot crowd could probably make it work but I suspect this won’t last in its current incarnation. No in built market and no positive word of mouth after maybe 3 months?

Sackville Lounges neon light was on this afternoon. Was put back up for sale - may have been viewings or it may have been sold. Not actually open at least not when I passed

Mate of mine said sackville is reopening next week . He walked by and there was a manager there inside and confirmed it .

Name used before for a poitin bar popup so I'd guess connected to that again?

And very unlikely to use the early house option!

I was in it a month or so agao and asked about the early house situation. They're keeping it as an option so that they can show sports events like the RWC etc when it might be needed.

Got the same reply when I asked on opening weekend - they don't want the old early house customers but there are times it'd make sense

Do you not need to open one day a month or something for the license to stay intact, thought I read that somewhere.....

Urban myth for both the normal licence and the early house "licence" (General Exemption Order) I'm fairly certain.

Normal licences have to be renewed annually but there are pubs closed decades with active licences.

Is it not one day a year to maintain a licence? Pub in my home town opened on Christmas Eve (only) for years, allegedly to keep the licence alive.

The Embankment in Tallaght made it nearly 20 years with a renewed licence and no opening. I'll dig in to older licencing laws but if it's there it's entirely unenforced

The early house GEO must be maintained, financially/administratively, as it cannot be reissued or any new ones granted

Sunday Times has an article on Galway Bays financials mentioning a new Dublin and a new Galway pub in the pipeline. Has the Dublin location been mentioned before?

I know they've been hoping to open North of the Royal canal for a while, but it's only ever been whispers as far as I'm aware

Very interested to know where in Galway they've planned, can't think of a location off the top of my head that's available.

The Fat Fox café on Camden Row, Dublin 2 has closed and looks set to be replaced by a bar called The Crafty Fox. It appears to use Opium's licence, 1006303, so is presumably connected through.

They probably want to get on to shop street area. Won't be going back to the cottage anyway!

Assume you mean High St/Quay st as Shop st only has garavans and Taaffes, both of which are going nowhere. There are also no pubs on either of those streets that spring to mind as in any trouble or likely to close. Strange one.

Wetherspoons are coming onto Eglington Street, I’d say they’ll be somewhere nearby to protect their market. Woodquay?
