Hi. I’m starting the charted accountancy course through the flexible route. I’m a stay at home mom and hope to do a few hours study per week. Would doing the cap1 and cap2 in the first year be manageable? Thanks!

You have to pass Cap 1 before progressing onto Cap 2. Both are 1 years (academic year) in duration.

To progress onto the FAE you will need at least 12 months work experience, so you could do Cap 1 and look for a trainee position then. You could in theory do CAP 2 and then look for work, but you will have to wait to progress into FAE.

CAP 1 is very manageable but you can do it on a modular basis if needed, CAP 2 gets extremely technical, but you can split it over 2 years.

    Slightly off topic.

But did you look into the ACCA Qualification? As well as ACA?

ACCA tends to be the more flexible of the two and is broken down into 13 exams/modules which you can tackle at your own rate and can do one at a time, you can do one or up to 4 exams per exam sitting and there are 4 exam sitting a year. The exams are split as 3 foundation level, 6 skills level, 4 professional level.

As you are a stay at home mother it could allow you more flexibility.
