Great post Seligehgit....not sure if it was intentional or not but "Rubber Hennelly" made me lol just now in the office.

I'm scrabbling around for green shoots of optimism as well....Mayo are on a fine line of being knackered or battle hardened whereas Dublin haven't been tested at all yet this summer

As pointless enough as that essential challenge game was yesterday in all fairness O'Gara and Brogan looked extremely sharp.

I've a feeling we'll see both on saturday. As Seilhegit points out I think McMenamin and Andrews aren't a patch on their previous selves. I could see Costello, Small, O'Gara and Brogan all sprung at some stage - with McAuley obviously

The green shoots of optimism are that we know they will give every last drop of blood for the cause. It could be the case that it's not enough, but so be it.
I, for one, will not be pessimistic anymore. Most of my comments were negative leading up to Donegal match. After watching Donegal and Kerry 2 weeks ago, I just couldn’t see how a lethargic Mayo could beat them. But instead of that, Mayo should have been out of sight after the first 35 mins.
You’d just never know on the day. I think Mayo will relish the day, and won’t be overawed. Most of these guys have been there already. Bought the ticket. And Hennelly will have gained great confidence from the game on Saturday. O’Shea is tipping on the form of his life at the moment. Durcan is flying. Keegan getting there. Andy still producing the goods at a key time. Matthew Ruane could have a pivotal role to play on Saturday.
I think it would be a good move putting Durcan on McCaffrey. It will at least get him a little cautious – that it might not be advisable to go bombing up the pitch. If Durcan could nail a sweet early point against him, McCaffrey would get the call from J Gavin to remember his defensive responsibilities.
I don’t know. It’s seems like such an uphill task. But I will not write them off anymore. Dick Clerkin had a good piece yesterday about Mayo. Comparing Dublin Mayo to Iron Mike Tyson and Buster Douglas many years ago. Anything is possible. Clerkin made a good point about the rain – that we should all be doing rain dances in the next 4 days.

Overegging it IMO. I don't think most people would see a Mayo win as a shock on that scale.

There shall be no Child of Prague statues placed under any hedge until Sunday, especially anywhere in the vaciinity of D3. Failure to comply will have untold consequences.

Over the past years one of the key factors in these games has been Dublin’s strength of the bench, yet looking at the bench it’s very similar to 2017 minus Paul Flynn. The likes of Connolly, Brogan, McMenamon, O’Gara, Daly are all still on the bench this year. Connolly has hardly played any ball, and Brogan is just back from injury. In general they’re two years older and have regressed.

On the other hand Mayos bench seems stronger than it was two years ago.

On the likes of Fenton etc having progressed, I’m not sure how that could be determined given that they’ve hardly played a proper championship game since 2017.

To be fair O'Gara and Brogan looked extremely sharp against the Tyrone development squad. Tells us nothing.

Looking back at it, it’s the same bench moreless the same bench as 2017, very similar to 2015, and even the core of the bench in 2013 is the same

I could be wrong, but dont think tickets.ie has the infrastructure to handle this kind of simultaneous demand. Ticketmaster can sell out Croke Park for a concert in 30 mins. Ive moved 200 people up a 15k virtual queue in 2.5 hours

Well yeah, or it might tell us an awful lot. They were hardly playing an under 14 team, you still have to - you know - go out and win and put your hand up for selection

In fairness Dublin can't win at times. It really reminds me of Mayo in our heyday under Horan part 1

They waltz through a province and super 8s against teams who have actually beaten Mayo in championship (Kildare, Roscommon) or given us scares (Cork, Meath) in recent years, yet its as if they've played only division 4 opposition the way some talk. And that we can't judge any of their players because of who they've played

I remember all the talk of us in 2013/14/15 was that we weren't tested in Connacht. It was simply a case we were just way too good for these teams, like Dublin are now.

We could well do the job on Saturday but it won't be down to Dublin not being "tested" or an ageing side or whatever. I think in this rivalry, too many people online go out of their way to knock the opposition in the build up. Instead we are witnessing two of the greatest teams to ever play the game, and I can't wait for what hopefully will be a classic. I'm under zero illusions as to how good Dublin are - I think they're an absolutely phenomenal outfit

We have no idea how many tickets have been put on sale this morning. It may well sell out but its way too early to say that fro definite. Im sure there are thousand of tickets being held back

Our Achilles heel has always been the last 10 or 15 mins against Dublin.

Even when we beat them in 2012, we ran out of steam in the last 10 mins and just about clung on.

Other games we threw away leads or just clung on for a replay or extra time.

So if I was the Mayo management, I would seriously focus on this period. They probably do that already, but its where its been won or lost in recent encounters.

I'd nearly prefer us to be 3 or 4 points down at the 60th minute and ending the game the stronger. I'm not sure we have anyone on the bench to match what Dublin bring on, which is why I think again Dublin will close this out.

Seems to happen every year unfortunately. A lot of people come out of the woodwork around semi final and final times, lots of people who don't attend games all year but want to be able to say they were there when Mayo beat Dublin/won the all ireland, likewise on the Dublin side I'm sure there are plenty who just want to be there so they can say they saw dublin do the 5 in a row or just want to be there because Mayo v Dublin is a bit of an occasion now. I know of a few who got tickets this morning who haven't been to a single game this year, a couple of them wouldn't even go out of their way to watch it on television but because there's an atmosphere and excitement around this fixture, they want to be there just to say that they were. And then there's the touting...
Unfortunately a lot of fans who attend games all year end up losing out.

Spot on. A lot of these people wouldn't be caught dead at a Mayo qualifier game or a Dublin Leinster Championship game, but as soon as its a big occasion in Croke Park where everyone else is going, they have to be there. At least season ticket holders are taken care of.
