Its not just my spelling I think now English is my second language because my grammar is so bad.

I think i am even getting an accent!
Is it possible to speak without an accent? Surely an accent is a de facto when it comes to speaking?

I am getting a new one that feels disastrously unfamiliar with English.

I know you can all feel it too. Something slowly slipping away. Something that was once so easy slowly being lost.

    A skill, a knowing.

I am looking at you Homo sapiens!

What is happening to us? I once was told that when you went to the Gaeltacht your vocabulary improved but your grammar became worse from hearing bad grammar.

Is it possible the level of grammar and vocabulary we expose ourselves to daily online is so bad its infecting us?

    How do we stop this?

    Has it happened to you?

    Its happening to me!
Me in work asking a colleague to help me find spelling mistakes in your post.

Does it sound Asian or French or German or something?

I asked something once in a local FB Marketplace. My kid's teacher replied in the most awful txtspk manner.
Something died in me that day.

Apart from my inability to spell correctly what I find a bit disquieting is that Chrome often can't spell either. Probably something to do with it's American cultural baggage.
I'm sick of adding words to the dictionary when Google/Chrome tells me I have a spelling mistake. No, my spelling is great! I just don't spell like an Americanisch.

The spelling and grammar/punctuation on this whole forum is frightening. I know the counter argument is "well; it's only an internet forum and you know what I'm saying, so the spelling isn't important". Maybe. But if you're going to the trouble of posting, why not go the extra yard and make sure the post is correct? Even on the first page of AH, there is a thread titled "Are the Kennedy's cursed?" Now, I'm assuming that most folk would know the difference between "Kennedys" and "Kennedy's", so I'm at a loss as to why someone would be happy/content to post that. I'm assuming it's not lack of intelligence, as the Irish education system is widely seen as one of the best in Europe.

I have never understood how people could have any trouble spelling. However I'd much rather be a bad speller and remember more of what I read.

I wonder if it's just an English language thing, or are French, Italians, Chinese, whoever, stuffing up their grammar as well?

Happens with German anyway. You hear them complain about how even newsreaders sometimes use incorrect grammar. Dass/das for example. I think genitiv vs dativ was another one.

Not spoken as krunklich as it once was so. No matter what AUDI car maker would allude to in their ads.

Why bother? Only a grammer nazi would care about a tiny and almost silly thing like a comna on a message board. I'd nearly prefer to put it in the wrong place just to show how little I care about small errors

Happens in other languages as well. Younger Greek people are often criticised for having poor grammar, messing up the case system, etc.

It's also part of how languages change. Grammar considered correct today was like "Should of" in Middle English.
