    Well done Shane ....
Your offalys 2nd most famous sports star of all time .
Fair play to McDowell and Harrington to be there as he walked off 18 to congratulate him .
Where was Mcilroy and Clarke ???
Wouldn't be at all surprised if Mcilroy was back in Florida .

Feck sake. If McIlroy had been there he'd have been accused of stealing the limelight. Guy can't win.

Anyway it's not about him, it's about Shane Lowry. He's got close before and I have a feeling this won't be his last Major.

    Briiliant

    he is very calm.

Id guess it hasn't hit him

Prob on a high and in shock ,

I'd say when he is out of the crowds and limelight it prob hit him later tonight about the win

    Well done Shane

Only those into GAA (myself included) would know who Seamus Darby was and what he did....the entire county and country will never forget Shane Lowry's name I'd imagine.

Its all relative to the individual...aint it..anyway great day for Offaly...

    They're saying it's bigger than Italian 90

He played so well all week. I was thinking on friday’s after his round if he just stay with them on Saturday, he’d have a great chance on Sunday when the ****e weather hits.

Yesterday’s round was ridiculous. That obviously won it for him.

He’s such a class act. So happy for him.

Not to be vulgar, but what is the prize fund?

Great win for Shane and Ireland.

Unusual situation though. I think there's less tricolours being on display if he had won it anywhere else.

Outside of the Ryder Cup do you normally get lots of flags at Golf tournaments.

I've never really noticed one way or the other because it is of so little importance.

Would like to see it myself. But if he keeps playing the way he is he has absolutely no chance. These things catch up with you eventually

Just catching up on this thread now. There is only one way to answer that comment and most of the other drivel you have been posting.

    Phuckhugh.

Well not really. Many many more will know what he has achieved.

    $10.75m believe.

    It was £1,700 in 1951!

Stopping kerry winning 5 in a row with a last minute goal is 1000 times bigger than winning the open .

What a ridiculous statement. No one outside of Ireland gives a **** about bogball. Very few of my mates even watch it. Hurling yes - bogball no.

Reading on twitter that Koepka made a gesture to an official after completing a hole about Holmes’ slow play. Makes Shane’s course record yesterday all the sweeter.

Lucky enough to be here in Portrush to witness it. Unbelievable scenes. I’m soaked to the bones but I don’t give a damn. I had 50 euros each way on him at 40/1 as well, so it’s a great weekend! :)

Cool, calm and composed. Brilliant few days of golf, a fully deserved victory. The crowds, the scenes...Unreal!

Loved the daughter when she recognised Shane, nice moment, obviously unaware of the magnitude of everything around her.

You got a bigger prize that the 1951 Open winner then

To be fair your orginal point was that "Nobody will be bigger in Offlay" and perhaps your right. It's fair to say there are probably more GAA fans up that way than golf. Buy that statement is simply ridiculous

Even Irish people don't care about it much anymore since Dublin are the only team that win and this won't change.

It seems we're quite far apart in our assessment of how big the Open is :pac:

Yes unless the Irish rugby team win the World Cup;) I would hazard a guess that Lowry is already a shoo in for the Irish Sportsperson of the Year award in December.

What a champion, I'm so delighted for him.

He showed how to win and not bottle it like some golfers(cant say no names), guess no one can have an opinion on hear as they leads to bans.

    Not every opinion is trolling!

Well there's Harrington when he won his first one in 2007.

Think that’s twice McGinley said he shot second best score of the day.
By my count 26 scores better than Shane today!
