Typical that an Irishman wins a major and half the posts in here are about whether it's called the British Open or not

Thank **** Eoin Morgan didn't win it....

    Well done Shane ....
Your offalys 2nd most famous sports star of all time .
Fair play to McDowell and Harrington to be there as he walked off 18 to congratulate him .
Where was Mcilroy and Clarke ???
Wouldn't be at all surprised if Mcilroy was back in Florida .
    2nd ? Who’s the 1st ?

No surprise that Clarke wasn't there since it wasn't all about him

This definitely doesn't feel like the climax of something. The turn of the year brought out a whole new player, the HSBC set a new bar, then he went into a much more consistent, more confident, more joyful in his game period.

Winning the Open is 1000 times bigger than winning a couple of All Irelands

Time has moved on.....its total arrogance to keep referring to it as ‘the open’

On the world stage. In a county All-Ireland winners are huge. The guy that got the goal to stop Kerry doing five in a row is a legend forever. Even though know about him.
I'd imagine that Lowry will have the same status as him.

Only those into GAA (myself included) would know who Seamus Darby was and what he did....the entire county and country will never forget Shane Lowry's name I'd imagine.

Shane seems like a really down to earth guy

It Seems like he isn't overly comfortable with the spotlight

Absolutely delighted for him,his family and his team ,

    Fair play !!

Great win for Shane and Ireland.

Unusual situation though. I think there's less tricolours being on display if he had won it anywhere else.

I feel sorry for the bar manager in his local golf club in ofally looked at the number of kegs they have and knowing it won't be even close to enough.

Only among GAA followers. On the international sporting stage Lowry`s win is of far greater prestige.

It seems we're quite far apart in our assessment of how big the Open is :pac:
