Great round but the pressure will be tomorrow, not today.

Yeah. Really grest round today. Hope he gets even breaks tomorrow as a 4 shot lead is nothing with that rough.

Good luck to him. Would be a deserving champ.

Some round from Shane though. Not bad from a bottler.

Lads! Do the names on the tickets matter? Is id requested on entrance?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 521 ✭✭✭poteen

Heading up tomorrow. Just wondering what time ye think the 18th stand will fill. Would like to catch some course action before watching the final groups coming in. Will it be full from early in the day ?

Absolutely no issue with names on tickets and i.d. Etc, you will be fine

Fantastic stuff from Shane. If he can keep the head tomorrow he'll be a very very popular winner.

Easily one of the most likeable pros there is

    Field avg 68.65%

Was that what was shouted ? Fecking silly thing to shout.

If you’re talking about when he backed off on 18th green (?), at least I think he backed off, the shout was “come on Shane”.

Par 3 16th was the hardest hole today.
Lowry Birdied it today. Pars rnd 1 & 2

edit - my stats are wrong

Today, there was plenty of space up until Lowry started at least. Might be more demand tomorrow with everyone hoping to watch a historic presentation at the end.

I really hope to good god that Shane sleeps well tonight and gets his head down tomorrow. Many a major has been lost between the sheets going into the last day with a good lead.Pressure is a funny thing like that from what i read.To me it looked like he played like he was unleashed and was playing within himself.
Will look forward to his interview with the lads on Newstalk if he powers through tomorrow.Love listening to him as he gives his opinion on his golf experiences which fly in the face of the pr responses to questions you hear so many other golfers give.

I went it about 1pm today (after walking around from first tee at 9.30) and it was about half full. That was when the first game was coming down 18 and I stayed for maybe 6/7 groups, just over an hour and it didn't fill during that time.

Overall the restricted capacity and numerous high spots meant much closer viewpoints with less crowding than most tournaments I've been to. It was really really nice. It'll still be really busy for the last groups but the grandstands were mostly OK bar 16 which was packed earlier. 9th is excellently positioned too as you can see 11th and 14th from it. Also got packed late on but grand for earlier groups

Obviously tee off is 2 hours earlier tomorrow and if it's raining/bad weather you might have people getting tired of walking around more than today when it was glorious so if you want a spot at 18 I'd say go when the first game is hitting 16 or so.

I'm literally only going by how it was today

He's such an ordinary humble chap, if he had a day off in golf you'd know he'd be down at a Junior football match in Offaly. I dont think he'll blow it tommorow, he seems to feed of the crowd. I think at worst if he has a par round tommrow he might sneak it or be in a play off. There will likely be a surge from one of the -8 to 10 crowd who will get a five or 6 under round. But a 4 shot lead with 6 back to third is an mazing position to be in going to the final round of a major

Is anyone else tired of these old cliches? I was reading a few predictions for tomorrow from 'expert's and all you get is the:

"Tommy's in a great position, not far enough behind to be out of it but not close enough to feel the burden of expectation"

"Shane has a lead that's great to build on Saturday but uncomfortable to sleep on"

"It's better to come in under the radar than have a lead going in on Sunday"

Could someone please point out to me if anyone else in the field wouldn't swap positions with Lowry in a heartbeat right now? A 4 shot lead going into Sunday is exactly where you want to be, hell the more the merrier.

I get the whole pressure of leading a major(well I don't) but the one place you want to be is in the lead and putting yourself in a position to have the tournament in your hands as much as you can rather than having to shoot the lights out and hoping everyone else makes mistakes.

I watched every shot that Lowry played today and I believe that I've seen the finest round of golf that I have ever witnessed, (certainly in a major). It was a privilege to see it.
I think it's great that Lowry is playing with Fleetwood tomorrow. They are two guys who respect and like each other and are both liked by everyone in the sport. I hope Lowry wins, but if he slips up there is no one else I'd like to see win it more than Fleetwood.

Sometimes in pressure situations a sort of calm can come over you and you perform well other times you s**t the togs and it all goes belly up. I really hope Shane is calm and collected tomorrow.

    I like Ole ole ole.

As generally when I heard it something great is happening in an Irish sporting event, that or we are getting hammered in soccer.

Not sure how we adopted in but its a great way to build an atmosphere that every Irish person knows, and can sing/shout.

As much as shouts of encouragement are good (between shots) you could never unit people to create such noise without something as catchy and simple as ole

Im pretty sure if he posts a 3 or 4 under tomorrow it's his but if Fleetwood gets off to a flier it will be very interesting but his win at the start of the season should keep him grounded mentally and he's been here before so here's hoping.
There's also the weather and whatever hand that deals the field but again I hope he's in a window of good weather...and the golfing gods are with him.
    C'mon Shane!!!!

I didn't know that. All the more reason to stop it. At this stage its up there with clapping when the plane lands.

I think he should attack the front 9 and try and get some early birdies, easier said than done of course but if he's going into the back nine with Fleetwood or a Koepke on his coattails then its anyones game. Hopefully the weather wont be as a big factor as people are predicting but it'll be the same for everybody

Shane Lowry he’s one of our own ..

Really enjoyed today’s golf. Lowry was exceptional. Exceeded his 3 round Oakmont performance.
Expect him to close it out in the wind and rain with a 70 or 71. Can’t see Fleetwood or JB applying early scoreboard pressure.
Only early pressure I can see coming is from Brooks. Well capable of birdies on the par 5 2nd and 7th.

    Great day up there today.

Met Shane briefly and wished him luck tomorrow.

Got pics with fleetwood and molinari. Both bang on and up for a laugh.

    Price for everything was extortionate

Bought a nice open golf polo shirt though for 30 pound

Shane's putter has worked well this week with his usual top class chipping, slower greens in his favour to. Fleetwood's and Holmes strengths wouldn't be the short stick when in the mix either. Very hopeful for tomorrow!
