Looking for an engineer to inspect apartment walls

    Hello,

    I want to move three door openings, all in interior stud walls, in my 2-bedroom apartment in Dublin 7.

    I described this in another thread here, along with floorplans, a moderator there suggested I ask here for an engineer to inspect the interior stud walls to see if they are load-bearing and generally give me advice on how to proceed.

    As mentioned in that thread I'll need to keep fire regulations in mind, especially as interior apartment doors need to be self-closing (even if I switch to sliding pocket doors) and fire rated.

    I'd like to hear from any professionals that could help me with this job.

    Not just the doors, but the walls in your internal hallway are 30 minute fire rated construction also.

    I'm not aware of any pocket/sliding doors that comply with the Fire Door Regulations (BS476 or TGD Part B)

    Thanks for that. I found this company that may do it. They are UK based but have an Irish website also:

    They have a self-closing mechanism which can be added to that particular fire rated door.

    The technical spec refers to UK regulations. I have contacted them to ask if they meet the Irish regulations you identified (BS476 or TGD Part B) and will post an update here when I hear back from them.

    Bear in mind they are suppliers so they won’t offer an opinion on compliance to your management company. You’ll have to engage an architect, engineer or Surveyor for that.

    Yes, that's a fair point. I'd love to hear from an engineer that could help me with that. Does anyone have any recommendations for one?

    +1 assuming you can get past Part B
    and also a builder who can read, and follow the instructions.
    My guess is the engineer will need to supervise the work before it gets covered over, I know I would, so it will add to the cost, maybe 1,000 euro plus VAT
