Hi. I am wondering if it is feasible to try and negotiate probate law without the help of a solicitor? My friends mum passed away a few months ago. Going over some paper work and turns out she had a pension and there is a sum payable to NOK. From what I can gather the amount is in the region of €2000 They won’t give her exact figures keep saying can’t with GDPR regulations.

She is expecting it to cost her more in solicitor fees than it’s worth to try and get the letter of administration. I offered to see if I could help her. She’s not great with forms but looking at the pack the probate office sent out there is lots of info she doesn’t have. Like PPS and Social Welfare claim numbers. Bank account details and credit uinion details. Her mums boyfriend at the time had all this info. They no longer speak and he will never give info to her.

I think I already know the answers I this but I’ll ask in case. I assume that unknown isn’t an acceptable answer for the CA24 form?

As it’s looking less likely that she can do it herself would anyone know a ball park figure what it would cost and would it be worth while for that sum?

    TIA

You can do it yourself if there is no property

If you try to DIY property you will pay twice as much to fix it

No property literally just the pension. No house no furniture that’s all been donated already.

Well no one can do a tap at all without letters of administration to give them the legal power to sort out the estate.

Solicitors don't charge much for assisting with probate tbh so it's probably not huge stakes to get one to do the donkey work in that regard. You can get them to look after the administration for a small enough fee too.

Personally, and I'd be more than capable of doing the whole shebang myself including court appearances :pac: and I'd still 100% happily pay someone else to do it.
