Ringsend Plant Overflow

This seemed to pass people by, but the original plan iirc was that Ringsend would deal with the city and south Dublin, while a separate treatment plant was to be built near Portrane for north Dublin. I don't think it was just down to local opposition, but the proposal for Portrane was abandoned and instead and a pumping station and interconnector was built at Sutton: https://www.irishtimes.com/news/200m-project-for-sewage-treatment-in-dublin-outlined-1.33148

So Ringsend was always going to struggle as the original capacity limit was reached far sooner than was planned for- the promised water quality targets in the article look a little off at this stage.

Currently Ringsend is been retro fitted with Nereda Technology which takes up a lot less space and when completed Ringsend will be able to cope with 2.4million people equivalent. Population of Greater Dublin Area is 1.9million expected to grow to 2.2 million by 2030

If Ringsend is over capacity presently there must be a lot of Industrial waste water mixed in .

There is growing opposition Northside to the proposed Plant at Clonshaugh and outfall to Irelands eye .
