If a band came out with Beatles songs nowadays they would get nowhere. It's all Icy T and Snoopy snoop doggy doog.

Sorry to be that guy but

    *scoopy scoopy dogg dogg

    :o

Ridiculous premise really, I don't think these songs would be hits nowadays no matter what way they were produced. Let it Be and Yesterday sound like something maybe Chris DeBurgh would sing.

They actually sound like something Ed Sheeran or Chris Martin would sing, just missing the more modern production flavours.

You can do anything with a good melody. People sample classic material all the time.

You never hear hen parties singing Lady in Red in the pub, but sing a few bars of Hey Jude...

    7/10

Whole thing was a bit mad tbh but not a band film was fun and the music was good. Few of the usual cliche characters
the funny friend couple, the stoner funny dude, mad dad who likes food etc)
    .

    They don't even explain
why the electrical fault happend and why certain things was vanished from everyone's memories. Oasis, Coca Cola and Harry Potter were obsolete too.

    Felt the
John Lennon character was a bit weird and may be a tad disrespectful. Could they have not done one of the living Beatles ???.

    I would have liked
if they actually explained what happend to the band and why only certain people remembered them

Anyway its was good fun and it's a film too sit back and just enjoy

Loved it. Genuinely funny and the cringe factor is very low(given its a film written by richard curtis). Hope it does well because its a film that dispenses with cynicism and wears its heart on its sleeve.

I enjoyed it also. After seeing rocketman and b rhapsody it is a good idea not to have a music movie that was a bit different. It was an unashamee feel good movie and in this case it worked.

    Just seen it and:
Wow - as a feel-good movie is up there with my favourites.

Made me think about Across the Universe, which I watched only the once when it came out, but Yesterday is way way better for me.

I'm going against the majority here & I didn't like it & I really thought that I would! I went there thinking yeh I would like this.
Found it boring and thought the story could have been developed more -
why somethings were wiped out of history, Beatles, Oasis and Coke etc
Also, the characters were bland! Was hoping that the
American manager/PR lady could have developed more and had more obscure demands

It was a great concept for a movie and unless you like the Beatles music, don't bother cos the story is flat!

Enjoyed it well enough, a bit schmaltzy towards the end but a nice way to pass a couple of hours. I couldn't help but picture David Walliams every time Rocky was on screen, the resemblance is striking.

I really enjoyed this movie! And I wouldn't even be the biggest beatles fan (I'd struggle to name their songs). It's a nice feel good summer movie, just try not to overthink it.

I sort of agree; the music was fine (and it really highlight how many amazing songs the Beatles released in just seven years) but the romance part was a little dull.

I was hoping at the end there'd be another outage and "things would go back to normal" - only Jack would be with the girl and he'd be happy just doing his own thing, and she'd be happy with him being the way he was.

I too feel there should've been more of an explanation of things - why no cigarettes? They existed without the Beatles!

The John Lennon part was a bit weird but could've been done a lot better - while he sort of looked like him, his voice was nothing like Lennon's. I think a better way for this scene to work could've been:
Jack gets the address but doesn't really believe it to be true. He goes to the house and knocks on the door but there's no answer. He looks down and sees the post box with letters addressed to "John Lennon" and he realises it's true. He walks to the beach and sees a figure in the distance walking his dog - it's John Lennon (could be shown in slow motion - the big reveal). Instead of meeting him and potentially weirding him out, he decides to leave him be and gets back in his car, happy in the knowledge that at least this man didn't have to die.

I suppose that version wouldn't have given him the drive to do what he did at the end - or maybe it would've been enough?

You didn't put a spoiler tag on arguably the films biggest spoiler and then spoiler tagged a suggestion you had. :D

Maybe replace that spoiler tag for those who haven't seen it.

This was ridiculous. The Beatles no longer exist but the world is barely any different. I'm guessing the writers are people in their twenties who think The Beatles are just a popular band who made some nice songs.

One of many parts where their lack of musical knowledge is blatantly obvious is where he
Googles 'Oasis' and they don't exist either because The Beatles don't, as if they're the only band that drew inspiration from them. Then he Googles 'The Rolling Stones' and they do exist. George Harrison was the one who recommended them to Decca and their first song was I Want To Be Your Man, a Beatles song. A lot of their early self written songs were inspired by Lennon/McCartney too. They might still have existed without The Beatles but they most likely would have been a very different band. They probably would have kept performing blues covers.

I was hoping it was at least going to get more interesting when he
played the concert in Russia and the man in the audience was staring at him creepily. I thought he was a Mark Chapman figure who was going to attempt to kill him.

I'm watching this movie right now and it's just boring. I mean it's actually dull and the characters are really irritating. Not even the Beatles music can save it and Ed Sheeran's as stiff as a statue. Just risible, really. What a shame.

It's a Danny Boyle movie though. I would expect so much more from him. But it's also Richard Curtis on the writing team and it shows.

EDIT: Movie's finally over and I just have to say that
    John Lennon showing up
is the most singularly cringeworthy scene I've ever watched in a movie.

    Watched it over the weekend.

the most charitable thing I could say about it, is that its mostly harmless.

It was .... ok. A 6/10 for me

Definitely not a Boyle or Curtis classic, but watchable enough

I was trying to remember where I'd seen the easy on the eye Lily James before

    It was Baby Driver

    Not worth watching.

Just don’t think there was a film in the concept.

With so much music that wasn’t part of the storytelling, there wasn’t room for a decent narrative - all very very predictable with poorly developed characters. And the quality of the covers was poor.

2/10 from me and that’s only because it didn’t offend or quite manage to put me to sleep.

It was an ok movie but nothing special.
.a 4 out of 10 from me. It was below average. Did not make sense why some things had changed and other things not and the ending was a mess and if all the power suddenly went in the World I think it would be in the headlines for more than a few days.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.
