What do people think about signings this summer? I've seen a lot and listened to mates saying we don't really need new signings as Ox Keita etc will be like new signings for the upcoming season but i think that is BS. We need to kick on now and strengthen the squad. We were very lucky in a number of games this season in the league and we just do not have the squad that city have (maybe an impossible task i know) but we need to strengthen.

I'd love to get De ligt make a real statement but i'm not sure how realistic that is given the money being asked. We need a back up for Mane and also LB/RB understudies.

De ligjt is no where near the finished article he makes plenty of mistake which is normal for hos age but why bother spending so much on him when Gomez looked so so good , We may already have a young CB who becomes better than De ligt

Cover for Mo and Mane is a must and left back c9ver

Bring back 2 points for the win, that's what I say! :D

We would have won the league 67 points to 66 in that case! ;)

Yeah for the money involved it doesn't look worth it. With Raiola as his agent too no sooner would he be in the door with Liverpool then Raiola would be looking for his next big pay day trying to sell him to Barca, Madrid or Juve.

I don't know if I'm recalling right but did Gomez get all his bad injuries when he was playing full back? My memories of him being injured were always at the sideline after a tackle. I don't recall him being injured when he is playing central.

With that I'd stop using him as RB cover and get decent cover in for Trent.

So City would’ve needed a point?

So Pool finished 31 32 points ahead of United in this new pedantic world? :)

If the draw was against City though

Is it fair to say that we lost the league by a moot point?

I have changed my mind I don't think we should sign anyone.

No young player is good enough they all have their faults and our younger lads already at the club could always become be better anyway.

I'd like to see us sign a CB, a player capable of playing both right and left back, and someone who can play across the front 3. All should be good enough to play every week if needed.

I've run out of patience with Lovren - he's a fine CB but nerves just seem to spread throughout the back line when he's there, though I'm willing to accept that this may be the case with any change to the defence. But, the main thing for me is that he never seems to be able to play more than 6/7 games without picking up an injury. Big fan of Gomez and Matip showed what he's made of last season too so it's not an urgent signing but if we are asking what I'd like, that'd be on the list.

Full-back goes without saying. Achraf Hakimi, on loan at Dortmund from Real, is the player that springs to mind as he plays both sides - we won't be signing him as he's 1) injured and 2) currently on a loan spell but that type of player would be good.

The players to cover the front three goes without saying - when City rest Sterling or Aguero, they bring in Mahrez or Jesus. I'm not as up to speed with European football as I was so I can't really give too many examples here.

I don't think it's needed but if we were in the market for a number 10, I quite liked the look of Donny van de Beek during Ajax's CL campaign. I think we're well stocked in that position but if it looks like Ox may not be back to his best for another year or that Keita is facing a long lay off, for e.g., I think we could do worse. (But Davy Klassen also looked great for them in a European campaign so hopefully the scouting dept has done more work than I have!)

As for what we will do, as opposed to what I would do, I reckon we'll get the full back cover and maybe one other player. Very few changes unless there are some sales - if Mignolet goes, we'll replace him, etc.

    Really ?

He's not half as bad as some like to make out ,

We lost one league game with him this season ,
Got to two Champions finals and he got to a world cup final in two season's, Seen as he is CB pretty important spot, he can't be that bad,

Also he is possibly our 4th choice CB now So could you name a better 4th choice CB in world football ?

That’s not how it works for me. I use my eyes to watch games and judge players.

I watch him play. He’s a liability. I don’t want him on the pitch for any game we are involved in.

Said it since we were trying to sign him. Very poor player. I watched him in the international tournament, when we were seemingly in for him, and he was awful. Grappling every time a forward went past him. He was atrocious against Mexico iirc.

I’ve seen enough of him in a red shirt to know I don’t want him involved. Ever.

Your correct his leg was broke by a tackle in the Burnley game, where he was playing right back, The defender tried to block the cross,

I think his first real bad injury for us was when he was playing left back under Rodgers.

And then again at right back for England U-21s.

Having watched the youtube clips of Pepe, I now won't be happy until he is signed at any cost. FSG out if he's not leaning by August. Who else is in for him? I don't care and neither should he. Come work with Klopp and contest European finals and play with Big Ears all summer.

Your being a bit silly here,

Where talking about a full England international who didn't put a foot wrong till he got injured in Gomez,

Gomez has just turned 22 De Ligt is almost 20 not much difference in age,

De Ligt has more appearances due to Joe being injured but Joe's played mostly at a higher level seen as the Prem is far better than the Dutch league ,
I think De Ligt has one more Champions league appearance to his name ,

I don't think there is much between them not enough to spend the money on De ligt when it can be used else where,

That's your opinion which is fair enough ,but I think since the Spurs game when he had mare he has been very good

Again I think he is the best 4th choice CB in world football ,

I can't see us being in for De Ligt. I just can't see us commiting that much money in transfer fee and wages in potentially strengthening an area we already have good options in.

To echo other posters I would much rather see us buy decent fullback cover, especially for left back, and cover in the attacking positions. Big difference between us and City last season was they carried a much greater goal scoring threat from the bench than us. Would love a De Bruyne type player at Liverpool but who is out there that is similar?

I'd be amazed if we are in for de Ligt, and very surprised if we are in for anyone for as much money as we are rumoured to have offered for Pepe. That smells of fake news to me mostly too. One of the days though I'm sure there will be actual news released when we have all but (or fully) signed someone, so ti'll be released in loads of sources together, as it should be.

It would be great to sign de Ligt however I wouldn’t get into a bidding war for him. If Edwards can get him for a set price brilliant. If he is looking to get Sanchez wages etc forget it.

De Ligt is going to be brilliant, but he needs to be at a club where he is week in week out at his age.
He should stay at Ajax for another year.

We can look at it like Gomez. I think his development is going to slow down now because of the competition for places we have.

That's the Raiola problem. Read yesterday that Raiola wants De Ligt to be the highest paid player and Liverpool would in turn have to increase other salaries to match it.

Well that's codswallop by him, Barca was supposedly the main target and Messi is on 30m a year.

PSG are supposed to be in the driving seat now.

You need to stop with these kind of posts.

Seen a few posts your still bringing up Fabinho being sold sarcastically because someone said it a few months.

It is childish & is doing nothing but bringing down the thread.

Just take this as advice & don't start getting upset like you have in the past.

Is this reminding anybody else of that Twitter exchange between two Arsenal fans about Jackson Martinez's age?

Just remembered something... After the final, BT Sport showed Henderson being interviewed, on the pitch I think. I couldn't hear the Interview as I was in a pub, but when they cut back to the studio afterwards it looked like he'd said something surprising, as the panel looked like they were reacting to something. Does anyone know what he said, have a link to it or anything?

Surely young players see PSG move is not worth the move the Frence league is just pants ,

I know they will get bags of money but De ligt will get bags of money anywhere he goes,

If De Ligt is making any of these demands that's being talked about like monstrous wages then we won't be going near him, Klopp wouldn't entertain a young player like that, he's still wet behind the ears and he thinks he can make demands like that, not for Klopp methinks.

To be fair, PSG give a lot of playing time to young players.

Mbappe is 20 and has played 43 games this season.
Dagba is 20 and played 22 games this season.
Nkunku is 21 and played 29 games this season.
Diaby is 19 and played 34 games this season.
Kehrer is 20 and played 40 games this season.
Kimpembe is a bit older at 23, but also gets regular gametime.

Marquinhos was a regular starter at 19/20 when he was bought.
Rabiot pretty much went straight into the first team at 18/19
Veratti pretty much went straight into the first team at 19/20 when he was bought.

Even in the past, including the time of when they had money, players like Sakho & Lucas Moura were regularly getting game time also.

I don't begrudge any player that can get a club to pay him crazy money like that more fool the club.

That is one thing Liverpool have nailed down with Edwards and whole come to use at this price and this wage and if you prove yourself you will be paid bigger and better money.

All players have to do is look at the players who signed recently and have seen the club is true to it's word to those players with contracts improved every year to improved wages to go with their improved performances on the pitch.

Not doubting that for a second but surely you want to go play in one of the big leagues, Different if your French of course ,
