Assuming Nadal wins this one, how many more years can he dominate in France? Could he possibly match or overhaul Federer's 20 slams with the French Open alone? Time is running out, but maybe it's possible?

He has a few more years competing for slams in him. I doubt he will catch Federer with just FO titles, though. At some point the years will catch up with him.

At a guess he could have two or maybe three years of FO dominance left in him. Hard to tell, though.

Fed’s SW19 success is almost equal..

Same time span, and beaten in 3 finals I think...

Do you see Federer winning any more? With Djokovic back after his couple of years in the wilderness I can't see Fed picking up anything more. Two more FOs would bring Nadal level.

Thankfully that's over roll on Wimbledon.

Federer will not win another slam. He will compete, but that is all.

I think Nadal will reach Fed's 20 slams, but he won't reach them with only French Open's. The poster I responded to asked if Nadal would reach 20 or 21 FO titles and beat Fed with only those. I don't think Nadal will win 20 FO's, but it is more than possible that he will bag a few more slams (FO and others) and reach Fed's tally that way.

Just to clarify, I meant reaching Fed's 20 overall mark, not meaning 20 FO titles!

I personally don't see Nadal winning another non-French Open slam, which would mean winning 2 or 3 more FOs to match/overhaul Fed's total. I'm wondering if it's possible before age catches up with him.

I think Nadal wins no more slams post FO 2020...

So he has 4 slams left to try pass Fed’s 20.

Quite a good chance at U.S and Australia coming..

The wall wins again. Really glad to see the back of clay. Said it before but it makes a game as predicable as men's tennis even more predictable. Nadal has not been good for the surface, don't care what anyone says. Barely bother to look at the clay swing for several years now.

Dunno about elsewhere, but at RG I think Nadal will still be contending to win it for the next four to five years at least.

Ah, that's fair enough! Took you up wrong, my bad.

I would not rule Nadal out of a non FO slam just yet but assuming he goes on for another four years then he would need to bag one either in this season or the next. It won't get easier for him, that's for sure.

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-tennis-frenchopen-stands-exclusive/exclusive-french-open-organizers-ask-employees-to-fill-empty-seats-on-main-court-idUSKCN1TA0IQ

Not a surprise. French Open had to ask employees to fill the stadium for Yesterdays mens semi and ladies final. The VIPS could not be arsed as usual.

This has been a poor slam for years but this year it really stunk.

Empty stadiums for elite players which as it got to the business end was dismal. They need to keep their VIPS happy, but ****ing hell, semi finals in front of half full stadiums?

    Poor scheduling.

Ladies was very low quality, Barty is fun, but look at the mediocrity she had to beat to win this. Kvitova not showing up, Bertens getting sick, Halep imploding and Sloane losing to a clay mug. Yuck.

The men's side has been a procession also with few shocks bar Thiem beating Novak in one of the few elite matches of the last week. Nadal winning was an amazing achievement but it was dull watching.

Looking forward to Wimbledon, full crowds and hopefully much more competitive than the mediocrity we got last few weeks.

Yeah, things could've been so much different if Bertens didn't fall ill.

Can't see anyone bar Nadal as favourite for Wimbledon.

So obvious he is doping but no one will address it, the ATP seem to be afraid of the guy.
He will literally be still winning the French Open in his 40s.

    Farce of a competition

And if Sloane and Halep had not blown up in the quarter finals to girls they really should be beating. Those two are the best players on this surface.

I like Barty btw, but look at who she had to beat to win this and its pretty underwhelming. :(

If Djok slips up or gets hurt he has a real shot at Wimbledon. I reckon he would favourite in all his matches in that case (though many would be tough matches where he is not an overwheing favourite).

Not sure what "blown up" means. From what i saw neither Stephens nor Halep had any excuses in their matches, they were just swept away by players who played outstandingly well on the day, simple as that. Konta did choke hard in the sf though, that was a big disappointment. Was very impressed by what i saw of Anisimova, she'd be one i'd put money on to emerge from the pack and win a few slams in the next few years.

On what basis is Nadal favourite for Wimbledon, he hasn't won a non clay tournament this year. If he can scramble through the first week of Wimbledon when the tournament is played on grass then he has a chance as the surface gets closer to clay conditions in the 2nd week. Federer would beat Nadal in straight sets in the first round of Wimbledon, in the final though Nadal would have a good chance of beating him.

For interest sake, has this always been the case at SW19? That the court would get slower as the tournament went on? Like back in the 80s and 90s?

Nadal isn't doping, yes he's going bald, that doesn't mean he's doping.

    Case closed then :pac:

Who are you referring to here ?
Nadal or Federer has another shot at wimbledon ?

Has always been the case, though in 2003 I believe the organisers began using different grass seeds to slow the courts down as a result of players like Sampras, Krajiceck and Ivanisevic boring viewers with endless aces during the 90's.

The irony is they might have to go back to the faster grass as wimbledon has been turned into a boring baseliner fest .... It's the only reason Nadal has won 2 - soon to be 3 - Wimbledons.

Djokovic is clearly the favourite for Wimbledon ffs. Nadal has got past the 4th round once since 2011. And I say that as a Nadal fan.

Hold on. Nadal came within a whisker of besting Nole last year at SW19..

    Nole a slight favorite..

Still Nadal should have won it last yr, Djokovic got luckly in their semi and had Nadal won would have beaten Anderson 6-1 6-1 6-0 in the final, would have been 1hr15m or so ...

And he is getting stronger .... and stronger ........ and stronger
Make no mistake , he is dominating.
Maybe the media will eventually take notice ...

    Drivel...

Nadal will win a MINIMUM of 3 more French Opens ... that alone takes him to 21.
At least 2 out of USO/AO ... takes him to 23.
Most likely one more Wimbledon .... 24.

    And as I said ... MINIMUM of 3 more FO's ... easily an extra 2 there .... 26.

Realistically I see Nadal finishing on at least 23 Grand Slams - good chance of 25/26.

Nadal had declined since last year.

    Yeh, so has Nole..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 65 ✭✭JuanBerrosa

Nadal had declined since last year.

Nonsense ... look at his AO this year.
Apart from final he was perfect, he only needs to worry about Djokovic ... but Djojovic needs to worry about everyone else!!

I wouldn't bet against Fed reaching a QF or SF at Wimbledon or the US. For a man his age in what is most likely his final season on the tour it's nothing to be scoffed at. If Djokovic or Nadal were injured that would improve his chances of winning, but there are potential banana skins along the way. Look at what happened against Anderson last year at Wimbledon. He was winning that match at a stroll and then lost.

It would be great if he bagged a slam before hanging up his racket (ala Sampras at the 2002 US) but I don't see it happening.
