The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance

As a kid I was fascinated by Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal, his puppet fantasy epic took place in such a lush, alien and extraordinary world that it has become a cult classic.
Netflix is to film a 10 part prequel this autumn that will also involve Henson's creature workshop and lean heavily on animatronics and puppets embellished with CGI.

I could not be more excited!

It is being produced and directed by Louis Leterrier (Now You See Me, The Incredible Hulk and The Clash of the Titans films) and written by writes from 'The 100' so I have my reservations about the creative team who seem a bad fit to me. Still, there has been talk for years about a return to the world of the dark crystal and I'll take what I can get.

For those interested in practical effects, they don't get much better and the documentary 'The World of the Dark Crystal' is a fascinating watch:

Limited CGI. All puppets with CGI being used to remove puppeteers and rods, etc.
In the original movie, Jen and Kira stop at the Wall of Destiny and they see the ruins of what was once a beautiful Gefling culture, and we took that as a jumping of point for the whole series,” said Henson, hinting that the prequel may give a glimpse of the planet Thra before the Dark Crystal was cracked.

“What was that culture, what was lost, what was that beautiful Gefling civilization? It’s very developed, with a big canvas with many different group of Gelflings…it’s rich.”

No release date yet, but filming as completed

That is something I need to rewatch. Saw it as a kid but don't think I was able to follow it or maybe I only saw parts.
Princess Bride, Labyrinth and Willow are also on the cards for the fantasy rewatch

Is it wrong that I saw a recent picture of the Olsen Twins and thought they were auditioning for this series?

Anyway, I'm assuming episodes are ~30 mins each?

^^^ That is what IMDb has them listed as! 30mins each!

Was just thinking, I'm surprised this was finished, with how Disney have treated the Marvel shows. Maybe contracts were all finalised.

    This has dropped.

Never would have thought one of my most anticipated shows of 2019 would be a TV series of Dark Crystal FFS lol :D

Full disclosure. I had no prior knowledge of this. It just popped up on my Netflix this morning.

So, I’ve watched the first one and first impression is that it’s utterly bizarre, in a good way I mean. It’s a very surreal watch. It looks amazing, and the story is right down my ally. Some of the imagery is mind blowing, distracting almost. Fair play to Netflix for putting something like this out there. I’m hoping after a few episodes that the novelty of the look and puppets will fade and I’ll get sucked into the story.

I’m just reading this is based on a film, can’t believe I’ve never seen it. This is something I would have lapped up as a kid.

I can only imagine what this would look like in 4K. I only have regular HD and it pops off the screen.

The film is on there as well. Looking forward to watching this

Going to ask the age old cliche question

I have seen and loved the film as a kid. Haven’t seen it since.

Do I need to watch it before I dive in to the series?
