That’s around quite a while. I have been watching the last couple weeks. Probably got for a bit less. Auto box probably means it will only get early 40’s mpg. Manual closer to late 40’s.

Picked up the Octavia vrs yesterday that was on this thread. Couple issues but guy was very upfront about them. Another successful bangernomics sale !!!!!

    Any known issues with them?

We have one in a petrol Galaxy for 2 years . No issues yet. I have read that fluid and filter needs changing on 3rd service or every 3 years. Spoke to a guy in Blackchurch Motors and he didn't seem to find too many issues with them.

They are rather problem free with diesels, but don't tolerate petrol engines as well. Probably because of different rotation speed of petrol Vs diesel engine.

    Thought on this corolla?

Pity the pictures are not the best.

The bonus of bad pictures is you know it's a genuine private sale , looks good to me.

Hard to tell but the driver's door mirror has been replaced with a matt black one. Front bumper looks a different colour to the bonnet. Hard to tell from the photos though but it would be an area I'd focus on when viewing it. It's normal for a car of that age to have had some cosmetic work done but I'd be more concerned around if it were something more serious and the quality of the repair.

    Interesting, thanks for that.

If I assume that the fluid and filter was not changed as scheduled, is there any point in doing it now? Can't imagine there are many petrol Powershift cars in this country - I now have two....

148k miles on the clock, would that be an issue in one of these?

The likes of a door mirror changed on a €1,200 car I wouldn't really be batting an eyelid bazz. I think its the bonnet that may be a different shade as the colour of the bumper seems to match the wings but yep hard to tell from the photos.

What I'd be most concerned about in that car is what shape the underneath is seen as its a UK import. In the main rust underneath put my 04 Corolla of the road last year and that was imported in from UK in 2008. Looked at a replacement Corolla, Avensis and a couple of Auris last year that were UK imports also and they were in terrible shape underneath - one of the Auris was particularly bad. People seem to think that Toyotas don't rust but they very much will too. Generally they are a great car though if maintained to some extent. Probably one of the last model Toyotas with that sort of solid Toyota feel to it. If all checks out that's on for not bad money.

It's more the door mirror in conjunction with the different coloured front bumper and what else on closer inspection I'm more concerned with rather than just a door mirror on its own. It could suggest that the car got a right smack in the front corner which could impact suspension, chassis and how the car drives, etc. I'm not saying don't go look at it but it's certainly an area of the car I'd be focusing on with a detailed inspection.

Also my father has a 2009 Auris originally from the UK and it doesn't have underside rust outside of the normal stuff you get on Irish cars, my own cars are ex UK too and don't have any rust issues so it's not automatic on all UK imports.

I was thinking the same, no harm to the poster but I'd see that struggling to make half the listed price.

I don’t know to be honest. I had a newer model 2.0 diesel (2008) in a few weeks ago and it was okay but I only had it a few days before it sold.

Agreed, as always when looking at a used car give it a good going over for accident damage among other things. Mismatching paintwork and badly aligned panels would be good tell tale signs of a botch job. Could be a right smack that was properly fixed or not or could be cosmetic damage which I wouldn't get overly anxious about either if it wasn't rectified to the highest of standards on a €1,200 car. Of course you might be limited too on what you can see if you cant remove panels to look at underneath

Maybe I was unlucky too but the 5 UK imports that I did look at last year were not in good shape at all underneath - An Avensis, a Corolla, a Mondeo and 2 Auris. One of the Auris in particular, a 2010 was shockingly bad. I know full well that its not automatically the case that all UK imports have rust issues but it would still be my first consideration if going to look at that Corolla being sold by a private seller in Donegal. Out of curiosity do you know what year your fathers was imported in and from which part of the UK? Also, was it from a private seller or trader?

Dsg are very reliable if serviced every 40k miles. Easy service too but people sometimes don't stick to the service intervals and then problems arise
