Esate agents selling tenants details

    Had thought about putting this in the Accommodation and Property section but its so skewed to one side there, I thought this would be the best place.

    Just a quick question...its become obvious that at least one estate agent in my locality is selling tenants details to companies such as Property Button and Home EZ, who then contact the tenants about setting up utilities. Is this legal?

    I would hazard a guess it breaches GDPR regs. Make a complaint to the data protection commissioner with any evidence you have.

    Unless (somewhere deep in the tenancy agreement) the put a "helpfull" clause asking for permission to "assist" the tennant in registering for the utilities...

    That would be known as an unfair condition, not least that utilities aren't part of lease. Lease is between landlord and tenant, not estate agent or utility.
