Okay, I have this booked in for a test at the start of May. What can I expect for it with a fresh test? No interest in it (understandably) at €450 with tax and test just till the end of June.

Took a deposit on this today anyway. All things going to plan it’ll be off with it to spend the rest of its days on Achill

Island Vehicle Tax. A 'For export' situation you could say! Nice.

Achill doesn’t qualify for Island Vehicle Tax. 👎

Is achill classed as an island in that regard though given that there’s a bridge?

I was seriously tempted to ring and go see this and take it away. Cant get insurance on it. Its over the max 20 year old limit.

Any suggestions for insurance companies out there that offer this?

Awaiting one company to come back on a quote.

I have an 99 reg insured with RSA, no problem setting it up and when you change car to your next banger its only €49 for admin.

Have changed yearly for the last 3 years :D

The bridge is movable so they have to open it one day a year to keep Achill's status as an island.

No idea if it affects Island Tax. :)

    Nah, it doesn't qualify

Taken from Mayo Co Co website

"In order to qualify for Island Vehicle Tax, a vehicle must be kept and used exclusively on an offshore Island to which there is no direct road or bridge access from the mainland. Achill Island does not qualify but Clare Island or Inisturk do. The address of the registered owner must be on the Island and the vehicle cannot be used on the mainland at any time."

According to this Achill doesn’t count for tax exemption etc

Bangers? You mean quality used vehicles for the financially astute motorist. Now where is my camel hair coat.

    Thoughts on this?

I spoke with seller earlier, says it could do with a new battery and tracking. Also there is a small oil leak with the turbo, no pressure being lost according to him. This went up at 2k a few days ago and dropped to 1k this morning. In need of a Bangernomics 7 seater to last a year or two. Is this too risky?

Edit- we are looking for a large 7 seater, 5 kids, 2 teens- this really fits the bill at the moment.

Good point is that it’s the same owner for the last 6 years.

They’re supposed to be a ball of a yoke though. Tread carefully.

Lazy v6 petrol would be less risky than the diesel version too at that age.

It's 3 door and tiny. And without the reputation of a corolla, civic or golf so it's correctly priced.

Just saw that alright after i posted it here. Seems a short time alright, unless it's a trader finding it hard to shift with the damage and having to drop price to get rid of it

Also, no mention at all of mileage!

Peugeot just have a way with Cars aging well.

That's a beaut. Even if the tax is beyond my capabilities.

I actually thought it was expensive for what it is?

12 year old, 3 door, oddball Volvo yoke with SFA tax or test, €1k car.

It does look tidy and 1 owner from new though, worth a look if you were in the market for one but the price needs negotiation IMO.

Was looking at some cheap fun motoring for about 6 months.

Would a 02/03 Mini cooper for around the €1200 mark be fun??

    Or a timeless classic?!!??

I toyed with the idea of a Mini for a while recently, but after a bit of research and following adverts on Donedeal etc, they really don't seem to be a car I'd bank on as a main car

One of the huge things that will strike you when trawling through the adverts are the number of them without NCT's and also listed with faults and heating issues etc.

Not saying not to, just research them well and know what to watch out for

Went to see this today, it’s spotless. The body is immaculate

Engine had plenty of Milk around the oil cap and and dip stick so i walked away. Such a Shame as the car itself is in great condition

Most I have seen have an NCT until the end of the year. Around the €1k mark, wouldn't be a main car either. Just something for a bit of fun driving and wouldn't care if it blew up come October!
