First car

Hi all,

I am currently on the look out for my first car. I'm in mid-20's and it will generally be used for commuting to and from work which is 20km each way. I've learnt to drive in a 1.6 Diesel.

I've had a look at some cars but don't have heart set on anything. Don't particularly mind whether it is diesel or petrol but would prefer to stay in the lower end of the road tax brackets <€200. Also wanted to buy from a dealer/reputable garage for peace of mind in the north-east. Looking at budget preferably under €10k (leaving something possibly for insurance) and trying to go as new as possible.

If it was me I’d Pick the Kia Ceed. Practical and very reliable. Followed by the Hyundai and Seat

OP you have a mixed bunch in there from small petrols to mid size diesel cars. The only criteria I can seem to see is the price range and cheap tax. You need to figure out what size car you want and do you actually need a diesel car? If your driving style or mileage doesn't suit a diesel then best stay away from them. I'd also recommend not getting too hung up on motor tax being a major deciding factor, most cars have cheap motor tax these days and it's really only a small part of the cost of owning a car.

hyundai is the best of that lot, watch out for the electrics in those french cars,
