He might be entitled to move on from the past, but he's not entitled to revive his media career, which was always based on his cheap sexual innuendo.

He can go work elsewhere and build a normal life for himself. If he keeps out of the media he'll be forgotten about and able to achieve all the redemption he wants.

I think it would be fairly insulting for RTE and co. to try to market him as a reformed character who has been through hell and back. It would just be a way of indirectly capitalizing on his past behaviour as far as Im concerned.

The suicide stuff is nonsense. Sure he was previously on the anxiety and depression bandwagon too with Bressie and co. A terrible victim altogether.

When you're talking about a subject such a suicide, who are you to say whether the person actually experienced suicidal thoughts or not? or dealt with anxiety or depression? You seem to be incredibly non sympathetic and assume that everyone is jumping on a bandwagon. I agree, some are. It's not 'nonsense'. This is the exact reason people keep quiet about the topic. Please read 'Me and My Mate Jeffrey' and then I'll be interested to hear your thoughts.

Hopefully when or if he makes a comeback he'll leave out the constant dick jokes, dick jokes purely for the sake of saying dick or Mickey followed by an exaggerated laugh. So tedious and tiresome.

That’s it really. His “comedy” made missus brown seem highbrow and that’s some feat in itself

Jesus, his twitter are just the ravings of a total narcissist. if i was in his position, I would have deleted my twitter a long time ago, he must have no shame. Its weird how he keeps posting stuff about his "career" so often on twitter, does he not realize his career ended a long time ago?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,083 ✭✭✭Farawayhome

I think had he been a straight man all the me too feminist crowd would be absolutely disgusted by him but as he’s gay there doesn’t seem to be the same outrage - hopefully there is consistency in how ppl treat him

If he was a straight man, there'd be many other men defending him!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,542 ✭✭✭Dante7

If he was a straight man, there'd be many other men defending him!

And that would obviously be wrong.

The same way it is obviously wrong for anyone to defend him just because he is gay.

What are you basing that on???????? I can't think of any examples off hand that suggest such a bias?

If he is guilty, he should be tried and be convicted. However, until such a time, this trial by social media crap is not helpful for anyone.

    That's great

Only in Ireland do we not really take compulsive stuff like this seriously.

Have you never heard of some men defending rapists and extremely rapey behaviour?

It's just mental looking at a perpetrator trying so desperately to morph into a victim.

I am asking for examples of "defending them" .

I am asking for like for like examples.

rape? whats with this talk of rape? he didn't rape anyone as far as i know

Al should have done a Jeff Bezos on this. If he had admitted to everything at the start and said he was genuinely sorry and would be taking steps to avoid doing it again, it'd all have been over by now. His mealy-mouthed non apology did him and his reputation no good whatsoever. I'm not sure he has learned anything from this.

The old suicide card. It's a disgusting tactic. It basically boils down to, if you don't stop being mean to me I will kill myself, and it will all be your fault, even though I am the one who is in the wrong.

It's a tactic designed to shut down any criticism and to stifle debate.

He is watching you, Dante, watch your back, pun intended.................

He didn't rape anyone Faraway. You shouldn't use that word here. I fully am aware of the strength and nature of the allegations, which I am of the firm belief are genuine and I am also disgusted that he is using the suicide card here but stop using the word rape here.

I also asked you for examples of like for like cases to this as evidence that males are generally more likely to defend straight men. That is feminist bullsh*t. You are basically inferring that there is a homophobic element to a lot of men being disgusted by his behaviour

Funny how he edited out the amount of thanks on my post on a thread that would have a lot less views than his Twitter. He got 7 likes for his post about me to date, despite him having 25k followers.

What do ye reckon his user name is?..

There was a big gay Al knocking around there for a while wasn't there?

He got into a 'discussion' with someone who didn't even tag him on twitter. So the guy is googling himself in order to create a false narrative to promote his supposed redemption.
He was questioned by one twitter user if he had contacted any of those he had hurt. He gave a vague answer, but undoubtedly he more than likely hasn't.

I notice his followers are not high profile, barring a Today FM producer, a writer for Extra.ie, and The IRish Mirror (Guess where the 'tweet' story was reported first...yep, Irish Mirror).

But I found this tweet very telling...

    https://twitter.com/TheAlPorter/status/1114985810804248576

If you've ever come across an abusive or manipulative individual, they always pull the 'I'm a nice guy'...
Nice people don't do that crap. They will discuss their honest to God flaws, the crap they've messed up with, and stuff that still bothers them.
He's doing the vague 'I don't deserve this' as well as looking for comments on himself.
    Total dirtbag.

The mind boggles as to why the do-gooders on his twitter are in such support of him. probably the same people who wont hear a word said against the church and all they got up to here for years.

You made a statement, I asked you to compare a situation like this wherein such a bias exists, you took the lazy, deflective route as there is no paramount evidence to back up that theory. Your accusation was men are more likely to defend straight men than gay men in sexual assault cases. I asked for examples, you told me to google rape cases.

Of course I could be wrong, I am just interested where you base this theory on, as it smacks of accusations of homophobia

Look up any famous rape case. On twitter and other places. It's not that difficult. Then you can compare it to this fella. If you're too lazy to do that, not my problem.

Can't find any that suggests such a bias? So, no, I think that is a perfectly irrational accusation plucked out of the air. Lesson is don't make such a statement if you can't back it up with evidence. That is the whole premise of accusations, actually having proof you can rely on. You shouldn't have to expect those who refute such a strong statement to find non proof. It makes no sense?

And once again, stop using the word rape here.
