German saloon/coupe 10k

I’m looking into getting a new car, budget would be in the range of €8-12k. I’d be interested in something German, so Audi, Merc or BMW.

Not an issue going over to the UK if there’s a better spec car there. No kids or anything, so a coupe would be an option. Insurance and maintenance costs would be a bit of a concern, only 27 so would like to keep the engine size at a max of 2L.

The car would do about a trip of about 400 motorway miles every two weeks, probably 50 miles a week of driving otherwise. Not sure does that warrant diesel or not.

Any recommendations? Audi A5 maybe? Not sure what merc would be an option, don’t know much about the different between classes

the bm's in that budget, were the less reliable petrols and diesels. Id probably go for an a5, a7 if you could up the budget...

be careful with insurance, funnily enough, my insurance dropped when I went from a 325 m sport to an S500! So dont just assume because engine is bigger, that insurance will be higher. The motor tax on the A7 is the same as the a5 for the most part, far more presence! Nothing around your price range touches the A7 coupe in my opinion...

Beautiful cars but I think a bit out of my range, what about a Merc E type?

27 is a bit young to be considering an E Class imo.

What about an A5?

The owner was telling me he gets all his audis in direct from Audi UK.

I'd +1 on an A5! I have a 2.0 TDI 2011 Quattro and love it. Beautiful car, and has been extremely reliable for me in my year / 60,000+km of driving. I'm 26 and pay ~€1000 insurance on it.

Would the fact there’s no warranty with that one have you worried at all?

Any idea when the timing belt and water pump are due to be changed on the A5? Is it 133,000 miles? Seems like a lot?

And is there an interval for the DMF or DPF?
