    Hi all,

Got an engine light on my Ford Mondeo Petrol 2L MK4 yesterday. No weird noise coming from it, and last two petrol fills were Circle K @ Dunboyne, and Applegreen at Celbridge (my usual place). Plan to bring it to the garage shortly, but wondering if there's anything that I can do to troubleshoot the issue before forking out money on it.

Also, it has an issue with the fuel intake; would that cause the engine light? If I fill when the engine is cold (10 minute trip from house to petrol station), I can only fill it to a quarter, but if i fill it when the engine is warmed up (30 minute journey with at least 5 minutes 120km motorway time), I can fill it half way.

Not sure if the two issues would be related, but the engine light is only recent, but the fuel issue has been like that since i got it. It was sitting up in a driveway and then shed for maybe 7 months before I bought it.

I would think the two issues are unrelated. Does your car have a fuel filler cap, or one of those easy fuel things? The latter can cause issues whereby the pump thinks the tank is full when it's not.

Unless you have some means of reading the codes, then you won't really be able to tell what is going on. It could be anything, and it's not uncommon to get a fault while the engine still runs smoothly. Mine has that at the minute, very annoying.

    Sounds like the issue alright.

Got this little gadget, and it said that the engine light was due to a P0400 error, which seems to mean "Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Malfunction".
