You have any comment on Kurt Angle being an Olympic Gold Medalist, no? Or Mark Henry being the world's strongest man? Or Ronda Rousey being an Olympic medalist and UFC Women's champion? Why did you ignore all of that?

Also, it hasn't been called WWF in close to 20 years. Educate yourself.

I’ve no interest in “sports entertainment”. I stopped watching it aged around 12 like most half normal ppl.

It’s a joke shop “sport” for clowns who no know better.

No doubt mcg will end up there and good riddance

He won gold in 1996. Good luck winning in 2020 in his 50s.

The poster said they're not real athletes who'd make it in real sports. Plenty of them have. Pro Wrestling isn't a sport but they're very athletic and what they do isn't easy at all.

Ah so you've no interest in actual discussion, good to know.

Yeah that's great and all but are you happy to admit that some of the performers have and do make it in real sports? Are you honest enough to do that? To admit you were talking pony?

Quite possibly the worst debater I've ever encountered on here. Just repeats stuff ad nauseam and won't properly or honestly engage.

Eddie Irvine would likely be up there

I think the Irish guy with his name in the team might have been more famous at the time...
Im not sure of the global profile of F1 with the average joe in India, Japan, China, US, Russia, Africa though.

    Arkle
Sorry, but Shergar is much more famous

Of course, this depends on when "is/was" is. Back in 1896 I reckon Harry Reynolds was quite high on the list

Its Tony McCoy. Every day and ten times on a Sunday. It just is.

If you consider his Norn Iron status being British rather than Irish, then its Brian O'Driscoll, then Paddy Harrington.

Statistically, Ireland's most decorated ever sportsperson is Rob Kearney oddly enough!

We're talking about worldwide fame. I'm a huge AP fan but no, just no.

Ok, so if we're talking purely about someone who simply might be or might have been recognised by the most number of people around the World its probably a toss up between McGregor and McIlroy or perhaps Roy of the Keanes when United were selling a trillion jerseys in Asia. Otherwise Georgie Best at one time?

Are we claiming McIlroy now btw? Few people mentioning him, seems a bit like when the BBC and the likes try to claim Irish sports stars as British

Watched a documentary on him, massive crowds in japan to greet him. I think his funeral was one of the biggest ever in ireland. True legend.

Henry was not the world’s strongest man by any metric.
    That was a gimmick

He was the “self proclaimed” Worlds strongest man. Never competed in the sport of Strongman as far as I know, fantastic weight lifter.

Gimmick when he began, granted. Then he took a hiatus and actually made it a reality. Documentary about his entire career dropped last month and it's really fantastic.

Rory McIlroy, Padraig Harrington, Conor McGregor are the top three most famous Irish sports stars no doubt. After that you can argue over the next two with Roy Keane, George Best, Stephen Roche, Sean Kelly, Barry McGuigan and Stephen Collins all worthy of consideration.

Went to 2 Olympics. Was the biggest man in the competition, never finished higher than 10th.
Guys 100+lbs lighter than him lifted more.

That’s not the world’s strongest man competition and he had coined his moniker long before that.
