AGS power of entry to house on suspicion of cannabis

I guess I have two real questions ...

1 can a garda enter my home if they smell cannabis ?

2 my flatmate told me that the gardail called 3 days ago. I rang the local police station and the gard told me that I'm not in the database for anything. What exactly does this mean ? What could they be looking for ?

I think they can as long as you let them in. You could always refuse and they go get a warrant.
How could you be in any trouble if you weren't there.
What I wouldn't do is call the station wondering have they anything on you yet.

This is not advice and I may be wrong

1 As far as I know ususally the need a warrant to enter a home unless they have reason to suspect evidence may be destroyed before they can get a warrant. But they can enter by force if they believe someone is there who has committed an arrestable offence or if someone they have an arrest warrant for is there.They have to try to seek entry first. They can enter if they suspect crime is in process. i am not sure if the smell of cannabis would be enough evidence to suggest a crime is in progress.
