Do I need to declare an engine swap even though the new engine is the exact same as the last one, same size, same model etc

Yes to update the details on logbook, done through filling in form RF111, potentially insurer may have issue too even though output would be the same, best to have it matching...

That form does not have a engine serial number, so no need to fill it if the liters are the same. Only point are that serial number. I am 99% sure nobody ever check it.

Pretty sure this came up before and George Dalton said there was no need if the engine is the same. Makes sense as you're not modifying anything, just replacing a part.

Think George also said new replacement engines from VW don't have a serial number,....

Engine is considered a spare part. If one changes for same spec one, there is no need to declare.

Yeah, no need to declare a like for like swap, consider it a spare part.

The replacement engine number wont match your logbook but this is never really checked, the only circumstance I can think of is identifying a stolen vehicle etc.
