Hello, My parents 2016 Kadjar 1.6 diesel has an eml light on and a message saying emission control. Would this be a DPF problem? The car does lots of short trips and maybe a long trip once a forntnight.
Any advice on this? Would it be covered under warranty?

Is it down in power too?

They have a 5 year warranty, I'd say contact the dealer for diagnosis, it may just need a good drive to clear it, then again a good drive to do more harm depending on the fault code.

Thanks, It was putting out some black smoke about 4 weeks back, and he gave it a good drive which sorted it out. He has to go on a 40 mile trip tomorrow which may help, otherwise he will go to the dealer.

He was at the dealer getting it serviced about 2 months ago, while there he asked them to fix the button on the door handle under warranty. They weren't very helpful and basically fobbed him off, the reason I think is because it's a uk import.
Is it common for dealers to give you the runaround when the car is a uk import?

He didn't mention it being down on power.

Sounds like diesel isn't for him.

Agreed. Electric would be perfect, otherwise hybrid. Diesel powered and lots of short trips is a bad combination.

Not unheard of, some service centres have a chip on their shoulder, meanwhile their sales arm brings them in by the truckload.

Try another dealer. If it is an EGR or DPF problem you many not want to mention you only do short journeys as they may not cover it in those circumstances.

Just wanted to finish this thread by saying that the main dealer sorted both problems out. The 'anti-pollution' light was just a faulty switch and they fixed the door switch as well. All done under warranty.
