Her posts on FB suggested she was going for a holiday. Did she know the couple that was killed?

I think we'd have heard her (loudly) mourning them if she knew them.

    Interesting local story in Cork

Ellis’s Yard: Long awaited clean up of Cork dumping site underway

    https://www.irishexaminer.com/breakingnews/ireland/elliss-yard-long-awaited-clean-up-of-cork-dumping-site-underway-907414.html

Ellis Yard is next to Spring Lane halting site

Lots of taxpayers money has been spent on numerous clean ups over the years

    https://www.irishexaminer.com/ireland/cork-city-faces-250k-bill-to-clean-up-illegal-dump-yet-again-472859.html

"The council spent more than €570,000 on three large-scale clean-ups of the site between 2003 and 2014.

A spokesperson for the council’s environment directorate said despite repeated clean-ups and several attempts at enhancing security, they have been unable to “break the cycle of illegal dumping” at the site.

The Traveller Visibility Group accepted that while some of the rubbish comes from the halting site, it said rubbish is coming from outside sources too.

Ellis’s Yard is used as a dumping ground for the local area. This is a much broader problem,” a spokesperson for the group said. "

Poor Bernard Sweeney doesn't like some of the comments on the Examiner FB

One of the first comments was Culture, boss

Bernard "so funny, please do tell us about your culture boss" and "what a load of rubbish boss"

Technically its not the Traveller's rubbish they are dumping there but its the Travellers doing the dumping.

They are offering door-to-door, cash in hand collection and bringing it there. When there is enough of it, they burn it which in turn causes the fire brigade to be called out. Where the kids in the neighbour halting site are only too happy to throw stones at or even block them from entering. They have driven the locals insane as this has been going on for years. Pops up on local radio all the time.

Now, the people who pay them are far from blameless here too! This 'prove how you dispose of your waste' bill can't come fast enough!

Lot of it does come from the halting site as well but not all as you said

It is def the travellers doing the dumping despite the spin

‘Dumping is not the fault of Travellers’

Has been disgusting for the residents near by

It does come up again and again on local radio

Ken O'Flynn the only local councillor to call the issue as it is

Amazing to think we are in 2019 and the council hasn't heard of CCTV or even a litter warden????

Strange as if I park in Dun Laoghaire rathdown area with tax out a month I get a ticket stating I've no tax displayed.....

Litter warden would be run out of the halting site and any cameras would be covered or broken. Kids would be blamed for breaking them and nothing would happen.

    Not very long I'll guess

Will be interesting to see what happens after the clean up

The site and the halting site have been cleaned numerous times before yet they always go back to a state of disrepair

Well then you put in security, litter warden and jaysus god forbid actually use our police force to enforce laws.

It would have been cheaper to employ a whole team of security, dogs and proper fencing etc.

That's great news, and how British of you

So basically, dumping rubbish is fine because it is ‘not British’

Yet at the same stage Bernard is sharing 2-3 stories a day about how we are destroying the planet. He’s apparently an environmentalist yet he excuses dumping rubbish by the Travellling community as it’s a display of their ‘Irish culture’:confused:

Yes. We can. It’s up to customers to make sure that they are dealing with legitimate companies.

Fair point. The state allow this to happen though. Weeding these lads out would be like a needle in a haystack to be fair to them. If privatisation of refuse services hadn't happened I don't think it would be such an issue.

It's really not that hard to ensure that the company you're paying to collect your waste are legit. There's an easily found list of operators with licenses here: http://www.nwcpo.ie/permitsearch.aspx There's no need for a consumer to try to "weed out" anyone. If the people collecting your bins aren't on the list for the area you're in, they're not legit, and may be dumping illegally.

In fairness she's probably being put up by Uncle Patsy and Scaldy at the local halting site.

I doubt she's out spending the State's money on swanky hotels and restaurants. It probably just paid for the flights and miscellaneous expenses.

This "settled people dumping rubbish in traveller camps" joke is getting so old.

There are tons of "settled people" fly tipping all over the country and they've been caught and fined for it so lets not pretend that it's not happening.

Also, I know tons of people that are paying any old joe to take away their rubbish for 5 euro a bag and they don't give a **** where it goes after there.

Both of these type of people are just as bad as travellers but that's okay cause they're settled and they all work hard for their money, none of them at all are on social welfare.
