I'll have to watch the manias in the 20's now to refresh my memory now lads. The Jericho vs HBK match from 19 was brilliant. Leggo is it you don't get it because even though 19 was second only to 17 in my mind in terms of best cards ever, the event itself didn't do well.

I dunno what it is, the match and the show as a whole just never clicked with me, even watching it live it all just seemed off and I was so amped up for that as that period of SmackDown was one of my favourites. In time I've grown to love the Jericho heel turn after, as well as Hogan/Vince and Austin/Rock, but it's just one of those Manias that feels 'off' to me. Maybe it's the venue and acoustics there, maybe it's cus of the weird stuff that happened like Booker losing to Triple H and Brock's SSP botch...no idea.

But like I said others absolutely swear by it so I've no doubt it's just an issue in my own head.

I agree that time period of smackdown was great and I still rewatch it on the network from time to time. I mean say what you want about Paul heyman the promoter and business man(and many many people have and not all positive) but when just concentrating on writing wrestling TV the man is a genius IMO.

Planning to binge some stuff on the network this evening and fancy some tag team action.

I guess NXT is the best place to start but I'm not the biggest NXT aficionado so appreciate suggestions

I see the DIY/Revival/AOP match at Takeover Orlando thrown around an awful lot. Is that generally considered the cream of NXT tag matches? What else should I put on the viewing list?

    Thanks in advance

Yeah from Takeover Dallas. One of my favourite opening matches of a show. Throw in Revival vs DIY from takeover Brooklyn and takeover Toronto on the recommendation pile as well.

The two DIY-Revival Takeover's are my favs, especially the November takeover in Toronto. 5 stars, best tag match I personally think I've ever seen.

After talking about Eddie winning the wwe title at No Way Out 2004 I decided to watch the smackdowns after that and one thing that I didn't even remember in the slightest was Rikishi and Scotty too hotty being tag champs in February 2004.

It's weird and I can tell you where I watched wrestle mania XX and where I sat in my parents house and watched it yet for whatever reason I can't remember them as champions. It was a genuine "they were champions ?" Moment yesterday when they came out for a match against the APA. I'm loving this nostalgia wormhole I've gone down this weekend with wrestling. I'm on the second last smackdown before mania at the moment.

She's part of the Hart family and has been in WWE for years so Vince probably thinks shes owed something for her loyalty. She's also well liked backstage. In WWE it doesn't really matter how good you are, it's who is liked backstage that usually get the opportunities.

Just wondering though. Will the three women's championships be defended at Wrestlemania or will they only have two? Poor Asuka has been placed in an awkward position. As Smackdown Women's Champion she's basically playing second fiddle to Becky and Charlotte, and it looks like she'll be playing second fiddle to the Women's Tag Team Champions too. They don't seem to have any plans for as of yet, and I don't know who she would defend her Women's Title against either.

I reckon she might defend it against Mandy Rose since Vince seems to be high on her. Maybe the Riott Squad will start invading Smackdown and she'll defend it against Ruby at Wrestlemania. Hard to say really. I don't think anyone outside of Charlotte, Becky and Asuka are any good on Smackdown. Everyone else kind've sucks.

My guess is they eitheir have multi woman match for the smackdown title or even the battle royal is for the title but whatever it is i think its pre show bound with the tag and raw title on the main show

Name goes a very long way, poster-girl for that being Tamina.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,875 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

But how are the tag title matches going to be done now? Will the Smackdown teams have to invade Raw every now and then?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,929 ✭✭✭Monokne

Had heard they were brand exclusive so just on Raw. Travelling champions moving between brands makes more sense to be honest. Which they should do with all their belts to be honest.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,875 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

They did that on the previous brand split, I think but can't remember how it worked.
Having them exclusive to Raw is stupid, if true. That's what led to the other titles getting brand versions

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,061 ✭✭✭leggo

They did it with the main belt and it didn't work, they had to split the belts within months. It was really weird and contrived having the champion on Raw one month then on SmackDown the next. I see how people think it should work in theory, I'd be much the same myself, but it didn't.

What didn't work about it?

As I recall it was reported at the time they split the belts so they could promote a title match on each brands house show.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 51,188 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Don't particularly mind them being brand exclusive tbh, but it makes the match look dumb as there were three Smackdown teams in it who were never going to win :pac:

Why bother putting together Naomi and Carmella at all, what will they do now - feud with the *shudder* Iiconics?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,929 ✭✭✭Monokne

Bayley & Sasha mentioned on Raw they will be defending them on all brands, so there you have it. Great news. There aren't enough teams on any one brand to make those belts worthwhile.

They should do the same with the male tag belts.

It lasted like four months before they nixed it. Define ‘working’.
