First Fluence in here I'd say ??

For now, there will be some heap in the next while.
Didn't a lot of these have misaligned rear subframes from new?

I'm with you there, can't understand it myself.

There's a 04 Octavia on DoneDeal with tax and test until the end of the month for 350 euro.

Timing belt done at 51k, it had 78k on clock when tested last year, now that's bangernomics. (unless you have to push it home).

My auld lad struggled to sell an 07 two years ago for a grand, think he got 800 for it in the end.

Can't see that getting more than a grand despite being the newer body shape.

Neighbours are trying to sell their 1.8 Mondeo since last year. Serviced in 2017 according to the ad, piss poor photos and asking 850 for it with no wallpaper on the screen.

The car is currently shoved round the back of the house and I can see it staying there a while at that price

    Hi Folks,
    I'd appreciate your advice.
I rear ended somebody in my 2002 e200 estate and it's now uneconomical to repair. I really liked the car. It was ugly as sin and a little thirsty with a few minor electrical niggles but it was roomy, comfortable and didn't give us any trouble..

I've been driving old Merc estates since we had our first child - I've gone through a w123 200t, a w123 230te, a w124 220te and the w201 200e. I bought them cheap enough and got about 3 or 4 years out of them before they died.

I read that the 211 was pretty poor. Is this true? I'd like 7 seats for the kids and stuff but it's not a deal breaker.

    Any views on the above?
Why is the 2009 diesel so cheap?
The poor perception of the car seems to be priced into them am I just buying trouble?
Is there anything specific to look out for with these cars?

My general rule is that I try to spend less than €4k but to get a good one. Is the mileage important? I would have ended up with about 320k Km on most of the other cars that I had. One of them (w123 230te) had 450k miles but was rotten in the end.

    Thanks for your help.

They got a facelift at the end of 06 that apparently sorted some issues so I'd be aiming for 07 and up examples.

The 2009 costs €1200 to tax per year, also look at the other type of stuff the seller has for sale.

The tax is swings and roundabouts - If I keep the car for 3 years it's only €1,500 over and above what I would pay for a 1.8 petrol.

What about the other stuff the seller has? - he seems to specialise in Mercedes, isn't that a good thing?

    Thanks for your input.

He has stuff for sale in the damaged/breaking/repairs sections too. The car could be genuine, it could also be damaged repaired. If that doesn't bother you then great but it might be a factor in the asking price just like the high motor tax.

We have a 2003 Kompressor in the family for over 10 years and its been great. Its had timing chains done, g/b refurbed (only €400) and lots of rear suspension work, not unexpected considering the mileage. But its not cheap!

As long as you are realistic with your running cost budget they are fine. As a pure Bangernomics car (run on a shoestring), however, they are hopeless.

    Link?

The only 04 Octavia @ €350 I see on Donedeal at the moment is showing NCT out on 19/02/19. That's 3 days time, not until the end of the month. Most wouldn't agree that's bangernomics, and even if it were to the end of the month. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong car or missed something though?

The one you are looking at:-
NCT runs out 9 days earlier than end of month
Also had 78k when NCT'd last year
Also had belt done at 51k
    Also costs €350
Also has tax until end of the month

Yep. You must be looking at the wrong car!
    Easy mistake to make ;)

    Maybe my sarcasm detector isin't working well these days or something passed entirely over my head but I assumed I was looking at the correct cartongue.png. This is what I was looking at;
    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/2004-skoda-octavia-1-4-16v-nct-02-19-tax-02-19/21060131
Maybe the original poster can clarify if the above is the incorrect car they were referring to though...

I have found that sometimes you need to speculate a bit to accumulate. Yep I know there wont be savage demand for a 11 year old petrol Mondeo but the only reasons I posted it were that a lot of people will find it difficult to arrange insurance on older cars...I've being there this time last year trying to get a decent quote on a 04' every day 1.4 Corolla. Mondeo looks tidy, mileage is low at 152k km and nice dollop of motor tax would sweeten the deal a tad. I know every Tom, Dick and Harry selling cars seem to be leaving the country but this is one I may actually believe with the foreign name as foreign nationals may tend to more than native Irish. Like every used car being sold privately go in eyes wide open, a phone call would probably tell a lot. €1,650 is on the optimistic side and hence why I alluded to aiming to get the car cheaper in my original post. I could have posted older much cheaper ready to go Mondeos all day long.

Anyway if we are to be talking cheap as chips cars. Heres a 00' Almera with 128k mile and an actual NCT worth talking about for €300
    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/car/21070581
Rust can be a serious issue on these but hey we are scrapping the bottom of the barrel here. I'd drive it but I'd rather spend a few quid more to get something newer that wouldn't be heartache come renewal time.

€1200 tax means it just won’t be economical and has very high Co2 emissions. €1200 on a petrol fair enough, but that tax on a 4 cyl diesel is mental.

Lads are Fiat Puntos still known to be unreliable?

    2008 1.4 petrol automatic

2006 B Class Mercedes, 1.5 petrol, NCT for the next month and taxed until end of April. (Tax on this is only 413 euro p.a. compared to 570 euro for some later models.)

120k miles, asking for 1,500 euro, on DoneDeal.

whats with the guesswork? if you see it, wouldnt it be better to put a link in? rather than people have to trawl for it???

    There is no guesswork.

    I don't do links.

You're either interested in the car or you're not, if you're interested then you have all the information you need without having to wade through thousands of other cars on various websites.

What's with this lazy sense of entitlement that links must be provided?

You would have found that car with the info provided quicker than posting the three questions that you decided to ask instead.

Calm down there, because it seems to be the way things are done on the thread, its easier, bit less convenient if on the phone too, nothing about entitlement at all, as you already have the details, may as well just provide the link, it can cause a bit of difficulty in locating the vehicle (it already did a few posts back when another poster could not locate the car),

True, because the tax on that engine pre co2 was €931.

I'm always calm, thanks for the concern.

Easy on the name calling there's no need to throwing around personal insults.

Right or wrong, the result is that it’s a pain in the arse. Maybe start your own thread of descriptions of cars for sale without links, see how it turns out.
