Worst maybe harsh but he's got terrible technique for them imo.

Did you think Frank Lampard was a good peno taker?

What would you say is a beneficial technique?

Personally, if you’re going for power you also have to have some amount of placement.

Doesn’t matter how much power you put on it, if it’s low and close enough either side of the keeper or through the middle, they’ve a good chance of saving it.

Some penalty takers are grand hitting them through the middle because they are able to use their eyes and run up to send the keeper diving early, but this is obviously not a skill that everyone has.

    Disagree

I’m a power over placement guy.

Lampard, Kane, Vardy all would be better pen takers imo.

It’s the optimum. It’s def the percentage play to hit as hard as you can

So long as it goes in who cares about how! For me Le Tiss was the best so I tend to compare styles to him but then you have Shearer who has a good record too and he would smack them in a goal isna goal at the end of the day!

Was Rooney not really bad at Penos? His conversion rate was poor if I remember correctly.

Le Tiss for me, 96% success rate in the PL speaks for itself. 25/26.

    Yeah remarkable record.

Rickie Lamberts record at Southampton is incredible. Must be something they do down there that makes for a good penalty taker. Henry is another one with an outstanding record just don't get Pires involved :pac:

Ricky Lambert, a blast from the past! Still mad he went to Liverpool and WC so late in his career

32/32 while at Southampton doesn't get much better than that! Think he then missed his first at Pool lol!

Balotelli couldnt miss a peno there for awhile.

Balotelli couldnt miss a peno there for awhile.

    Scored 10/10 for City.

    Since then he's 27/32 (84% success)

Molby was king of pens imho.

Would put Gerrard up there as well - he was very reliable that season that we nearly almost did the business with B-Rod.

Aldo was decent also but never the same after the 88 Cup Final

Never trusted Fowler or Owen at all, and not 100% confident in Salah from the sport either tbh

    Off-the-top-of-my-head

Penalty techniques I hate - Alexis Sanchez (30% - LOL), Eden Hazard (86.79%), Sergio Aguero (80.39%), Gabriel Jesús (66.67%), Paul Pogba (78.57%).

Basically, I don't like players that slowly walk up-to-the-ball and *wait for the 'keeper to move.

    I like run ups/smash it:

Harry Kane (82.35%) , Jamie Vardy (82.35%), Frank Lampard (85.71%)

Gerrards record isn't great missed about 20%. Agree on Salah always have a bad feeling when he steps up!

Gerrard 85.19% success rate for 54 pens was a great record for that sample size - Especially when in comparison to Van Nistelrooy who was considered a great pen taker only has a success rate of 81.25% from 64 pens

    Salah 76.92% from 13 pens.

Shearer trumps them all imo (given the amount he took)

I might be recalling it wrong but I am pretty sure Cantona never missed a Penalty for United in a competitive match? He missed one in a pre season friendly tournament against Ranger IIRC but only because he tried a fancy chip.

He missed one at Leeds (playing for Man Utd), and maybe 1 other

Didn't take too much over his career though, but ya he was good.

I seem to remember he rolled one wide one time and it was almost headline news!

Baines was extremely consistent. I only remember him missing one against utd.

Yakubu was fairly proficient at penalties as far as I remember.

Shearer used to smack them but rarely down the middle. They were either in the corner or high into the net.

He has 2 misses and 63 successful. That’s some record!

Yeah he had an amazing ability to give it power and accuracy pretty unique to be able to control both so well.
