Last week there were nationwide raids on distributors of child abuse material as reported in media.
One or two sex dolls were confiscated by Gardai along with other material.

I'm assuming the dolls were child-sized but why would they be seized? Morality aside, surely posession of a sex doll/toy/object cannot be illegal? Or can it? Would it not be viewed, from a legal standpoint, as being the same as a flashlight, blow-up doll, dildo or whatever other aid or outlet?

    TIA.

Due to the heinous nature of some of these sex crimes we are naturally drawn to taking a severe stance towards them and possible offenders.

    I remember reading about:

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweetie_(internet_avatar)

and mulling over the ethical implications. Ultimately, I believe it is better, for this type of crime, to catch persons who display offending behaviour before they commit it.

However I don't believe this entrapment behaviour by state bodies would be ethical were it to be used to lure criminals to rob banks or steal cars. Am I a hypocrite?
