i've just had Tyson too many times now. it's probably a missed opportunity with Austin there, but there's only so many times I want to book the same people :)

Others (based off last years rosters):

Teddy Hart, Gentleman Jack Gallagher, Sean O'Haire (who is usually a popular pick, once went in round 1 iirc), London & Kendrick, Lio Rush (thought he might go as a mouthpiece for someone), Natural Disasters, Vince Russo, Ultimo Dragon.

There's more but arguably a bit more obscure than the above.

I was gonna draft Teddy Hart and Pillman Jr for Liz. Also Vicky Guerrero too.

Hope I drafted good for you Liz

I had planned all along that my last two picks were going to be Sabu and...

    Tee hee... Necro Butcher.

But when I traded RVD I changed my plans up a good bit as is evident.

I didn't really have anything for Necro Butcher anyways, it would have been purely for namesake and sh1ts and giggle reasons :pac:

Also this, I think it was Bounty who said to me via PM there's a lot of regulars still playing who would have used most of the old school celebs (Tyson, Ali, Mayweather etc.) at least one if not numerous times so it might be a reason for some seemingly mainstays like Tyson not going this year.

Yeah that was me, probably cited it as the reason why I took someone like Adam West last year too. Found him to be someone fun and different to book instead of the usual. That said this year I went for Ali again but actually waited a round after celebs became eligible before pulling the trigger on him and will probably end up using him more for his promo skills than for his in ring ability this time. Have the Greatest meet The Great one etc

I like that celebs didn't have to be taken in the specific celeb round this year too as otherwise I might have just passed up the option.

One stip I didn't pull the trigger on this year was a bonus auction round.

I'd take 15 undrafted superstars of differing time periods, ability and prestige etc and randomise them. Then one by one I'd chuck them up on the picks thread. First person to post that they wanted them, got them. It's risk reward as there might be a gem later in the round or the rest might not fit your roster properly at all.

Not sure if it would have worked well or not though.

You did Sir, even though I did have Teddy in mind too

Was Chavo Snr and Jnr also not picked?

    Jay “Switchblade” White get drafted?

    Shocking, given recent events.

Correct, neither went this year either.

My potential picks list still had Inoki, Abyss, Lance Storm, Mike Awesome, Rhyno, Sabu, Victoria & Ember Moon. I was also tempted to pick Koloff & Volkoff instead of Hassan & Daivari at the end but I felt Trump & Russia would have to be the focal point of my roster in that case and I wasn't sure how to do it. El Santo, El Hijo del Santo or Caristico were also possibilities as I do feel not having any Mexicans on the same roster is an opportunity missed.

Im unsure of how to write my stories this year.

I feel my enjoyment of the write ups is always the twists and turns, how feuds develop week to week.

I think I may use the tact of having a preview post to outline how some storylines began. But its a balancing act.

Ive also gone for 8 matches.

I deigned against it this year to try something different and focus on the PPV. Not sure how it will pan out but time will tell I guess.

7/8 is my regular amount. Had 7 last year and the same again this year, think I might have had 8 the first two years I played. Initially I only had 5 planned for this year but things changed as my roster grew.

I had 7 last year, would rather less but Ive good stories for all I think, just need to pad out the ideas and the twists

I'm essentially writing 2 PPVs now :pac:

10-12 matches is far too many!

I've 7 marches this year, had 6 last year. Last year I went with 3 build-up shows and a PPV. Looks like I'll be heading that way again this year. I like the opportunity to develop the feuds, and allow the PPV card to be revealed bit by bit.

I currently have 5-6 matches lined up, and will most likely have the 3 build up 1 ppv route also.

Regarding people on my list that I didnt pick; I had Ember Moon, Lars Sullivan and Keith Lee who I was considering

When it comes to announcers, I know those undrafted are fair game to use.

What about interviewers Like Mean Gene and such?

Does that go the same for referees? (I assume announcers and the like are grand to use, but can't take active parts in stories?)

I usually just make up announcers etc. But I don't really mind if people want to use RL names either once they aren't a part of the stories. Save that for your drafted folks :D

What about the likes of Abraham Washington or Brutus Beefcake who have talk shows?

I wouldnt be involving anyone in an feud, just using the talk show to further the angle

Or, similarly, a GM. Could I use Gorilla Monsoon or John Laurinaitis as a GM? All they'd be doing would be making announcements and moving things along. Instinctively I think no, as where do you draw the line?

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 57,200 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Not sure about allowing guys like Beefcake hosting shows/Monsoon GMing tbh.

I think you work within the roster you draft.

IIRC that's pretty much always been the way?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,431 ✭✭✭ShagNastii

I think that would be pushing it. An announcer I wouldn't necessarily class as a "character". Mean Gene (and his like) are relatively faceless doing not much more than holding a mike. Announcers I'd argue are the same.

TBF people actively use draft picks to get GMs & personalities. The only reason I drafted Carilto was to have a chatshow set piece. If I knew I could have gotten him or say Beefer as a freebie I would have used my pick differently.

Hoping to get part 1 one of my PPV up maybe tomorrow evening. Might be busy in work but night shift allows me to get the basic outline of my matches down in between calls :P

Only bells and whistles to add to it now tomorrow when I have a couple of days off.

I'm actually off till Monday then into mental busy times so I need to get most of it done before I run out of time :(

Won't be half as active when I change roles officially on Monday either.
