That golf looks a fantastic buy.well done and good luck with it.. see it on done deal or through contacts?

Thank you. DoneDeal.... i stayed in touch with the seller from the minute i saw it went online and was the 1st one to see. Probably i paid a bit more than what it worth in comparison to the others for sale but I'm very happy with it. Its booked in for paint correction next week :)

I actually would love something like this but I would guess it is clocked to the last with low mileage like that

Doesn't seem too short to me, seeing as it's in miles.

How do you come to that conclusion? 8k miles a year isn't outside the realms of possibilty in fairness. My 99 had a verifiable 114k miles when I bought in 2017 and has done barely 3k since.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,685 ✭✭✭Mad_Mike

You could get the 10 Euro Cartell report which will check for any discrepancies.

It's not conclusive, as somebody might have entered miles instead of kms on a previous NCT etc and it might mention a discrepancy. Having said that, if it comes back with "no discrepancies", all should be fine.

The issue I had previously with one report is that there were discrepancies found, and I was advised to contact Cartell directly, but they were very very vague and wouldn't disclose the actual discrepancy to me, but eventually did say that one of the previous readings from an NCT would show that this was more than an error in entering wrong miles or kms

As I said it is a guess, any of these I check never seem to have any sort of history with them so how are you suppsoed to know?

As with all private purchases and in particular bangernomics - tread carefully.
Weigh up the seller, the overall condition of the car, question the seller in relation to previous owners & maintenance.
The '00 Octavia I bought in October '17 was a veritable hens tooth. A genuine low mile, one owner diesel. 124k miles.
I had a good chat with the owner on the phone and it all seemed legit, so I travelled from Mayo to Dublin by train and bought the car. Funnily enough the guy selling told me I was the first person to actually look at the car! He had fielded a load of calls from guys offering silly money or telling him it must be clocked. I paid around €950!
I agree if it's a 7 owner diesel A4 or whatever with zero history and a young buck selling it then it's fraught. Not necessarily dishonest, but fraught.
The seller/owner should be able to put alot of concerns at ease if it's a genuine car.

OK, bit unfair to knock it as clocked on just a hunch. I had a 2nd look at the ad and can't see any reason for you to surmise that it is clocked.

The seat bolster looks very good, you'd know if it had seen more miles

What's the fuel economy in these like? I'd imagine it's not great.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,047 ✭✭✭Truckermal

That A4 is spotless and a estate even better! Clocked me arse my buddy who is a publican was saying punters were giving out about his beer being dearer than the pub up the road..... Anyway he got a better price of the rep and then they wouldn't drink it as they reckoned something was wrong with it as it was cheaper....

    2003 Skoda Superb Comfort 1.8 T
    Mileage 115,500 mi
    Fuel Type Petrol
    Transmission Manual
    Body Type Saloon
    Engine Size 1.8 litre
    Road Tax €636
    NCT Expiry Aug 2019
    Previous Owners 5
    Country of Reg. Ireland
Full service history from new, genuine mileage, two keys, passed NCT on 25.10.2018, timing belt and water pump done at 108000 at the main skoda dealer, have a receipt to prove, many other parts replaced. TAXed to the end of November. Excellent condition, in every day use and it looks and drives very very well. Any inspection more than welcome. Light damage as can be seen from the photos. The car has been declared a category c write off so just need an engineer report to be brought back to the road. As I said the car is absolutely perfect condition and was in use up until now; I bought a new car today so don't want this one to stay with no use. Open to reasonable offers. May swap for something not a car obviously :)

Damage doesn't look too bad, anyone any idea how much that engineer report would be to get.

With tax til end of November thats worth more than they are looking for

This is my own car here I bought as a stop gap, handy car if someone is stuck, asking 300 but will take a good offer. Newish front tyres, plugs and one coil. Slipping clutch but drives fine if you take it handy, few knocks from suspension too so would need work for NCT. NCT end of March and Tax until end of April.
