Too much money at stake, 200k to the winner. Would’ve been a better fight if money was at 10k ect

I skipped through it... did anyone land a single punch?

This actually shows them in a good light, very a very peaceful fight!

The two of them were well gassed by the end, probably covered a good 10km walking around the yard

    LMFAO
These Neanderthals don't know the meaning of the word "peace".

I think you will find the word is "piece" as in "When I am finished with you, you will be in pieces"

If there really was a 200k purse for the winner would that not make these guys Ireland's highest paid domestic sports stars? Maybe some of the rugby internationals would get a similar amount annually...

That wasn't a fight. Neither are skilled boxers but rely on size. At about 35 mins there was finally an attack but it just ended in holding. Even the lad refereeing had enough and was telling them to fight before this. Can't believe the purse was that large. 200k for that doesn't seem realistic.

If it had been any more gentle a fight, they'd have been hugging.

    Awful.

Wouldn't you think Joe Joyce would have taken his jumper off?

It's only the complete mismatched fights that end in a win/lose situation.
If it looks like someone is getting the upper hand the ref will keep interrupting asking them to shake hands.
It's safe enough for both side to stake 100k each on fights like this.

There was 100k “kicking money” put up by both fighters and their families. Plus along with that bets in the region of 20k plus.

All this money they have yet can’t buy a decent bit of clothes

I've seen a few of the big money fight like this and it has always been a draw with very few punches thrown.
Of course I don't follow it too closely, any examples of fights where big money ended up changing hands?
Or is it all just a charade?

This is an interesting 8 min clip of them dealing the money and all that, again this fight ended in a draw probably because both sides didn’t want to lose that much money https://youtu.be/TCpSkpq0rIo

    Big fat hairy tinkers.
They have the system all sewn up.

They're able to box for an hour solid but they can't go out and earn an honest days pay.

    200k for a fight.

    Welcome to Ireland's benefit system.

    Brilliant,ain't it.

I just think it's amusing that these two feral troglodytes would be more generously recompensed than all of our Olympic athletes, intercounty gaa players, LoI semi-pros etc. On the serious side though, I could really see this traveller boxing phenomenon taking off if they got the right management team in place. They get millions of views for their videos and public interest is bleeding into the mainstream-all they need now is a Vince McMahon figure to add some structure and box-office knowhow. I mean we've had Jackass, MMA, My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding and Trailer Park Boys so this would be a logical progression.

Sounds like the money aspect spoiled it and they didn't want to take chances and have a rumble.

You forgot the Thelma Nadine work experience program. I spat out my whiskey when I heard it. Never in my life have I heard the words "Gypsy" and "Work" uttered in the same sentence. As predicted, the girls were just having a laugh before their professional careers started in media like on crime line and journalism on the court pages. The girls got 10 minutes of fame. It was proper car crash TV and got ratings.

Boxed as a young lad around Tralee. In a ring 1 on 1 they weren't worth a fąk

Utter nonsense. Travellers are represented throughout amateur boxing in Ireland and England and do very well.

That is because they are the only ones who do it. once they meet Cubans they go down hard and fast. I would say Katie Taylor and Michael Carruth were the only decent people involved in the sport in my living memory. Even Katie Taylor has had her star tainted.

Boxing is a dirty sport with some very powerful figures moving in the background. Every boxer comes with a tragic ending of some sort.

Andy Lee was a world champion and is getting a good bit of work broadcasting now that he's retired. Seems like a very clever and nice lad any time I've heard him speak.

Is Joe Joyce Junior's Davey's Martin in the Royal Rumble tonight or were they arrested for illegal fighting?
