Was in touch with Kahn Designs about their B7, they sent over the full spec and Japanese service history. It's just had a huge price-drop; that said the original asking of £50k was pie in the sky stuff. Doesn't look like there's much (if any) wiggle room but if we can agree on a price i'll take it. Some thinking to do this weekend.

Would you not want to go over to look at it in the metal and drive it before negotiations?

That's a hefty price for a 13 year old car VM, albeit a rare model. It looks well kept but it does look it's age imo. For that money would you not go for an F01 740i?

A few things would need to fall into place before booking a ticket, i'm sussing out VRT, sale of my own and sterling taking a bump isn't helping. I wouldn't pay the £30k but have a figure in my head. F01s are of no interest to me, barely any improvement over the E65.

It's either a G 7er or an Alpina and the Alpina will loose a lot less money in the short or long run.

Only 22k miles, sure she's hardly been driven! Reason why it looks so fresh. It would certainly be a unique car in this country.

1 of 14 in RHD, for the whole of Ireland, UK, Japan and Australia, its rarer than rare! Supercharger costs are a little worrying if it goes, the price of a new Ford Focus, some preventative maintenance would be a priority.

What are the e34 like compared to an e39? I had e39 530i and 525i loved them both.

Not as refined but perfectly comfy and acceptable as a daily. Really good imo..... they'd have power steering & ABS. Probably no cruise or even air con but as a driver they're A1.

That's lovely if it's as good in the flesh as it looks in the pics. Hard to judge the price though, not outlandish but certainly not cheap. I'd say there's still a reasonable selection of them in the UK.

New m340i vs. M2. I reckon that 340i will be a brilliant all rounder.

I'm probably a philistine, but not feeling the love for that alpina 7 series Voodoo.
I think it's a very left field choice and has very limited appeal. It's a very powerful dated barge to my eyes but obviously if it's your thing then go for it. If anything goes wrong I guess it would cost a small fortune to put right though.

Yep I get that, it was always on my radar and I know these cars very well so its right up my street. Engine woes with Alpina specific issues is my only concern, but I have some decent contacts to get stuff sorted. All this is price dependent, it would need to come down to be worthwhile.

Just love the M2! 340i would be more practical but I'd have an m2 in a heartbeat. Goes to show the difference the x drive makes taking off from standstill.

M2 is savage, one dropped a gear beside me yesterday I think deliberately. Sounded awesome. Road was wet, said i'd let it off didn't want them spinning off on my account, also had a nuclear warhead in my boot.

You obviously are familiar with and appreciate a car like this. It started life in Japan and then brought to UK?
UK dealers tend not to negotiate too much from asking prices though.

well did you do a deal Voodoo Melon?
    Get a pre brexit bargain?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,529 ✭✭✭MarkN

Price of sterling against the euro ain't as attractive as it was a few weeks ago and will only get tighter by the end of this week I feel.

They actually contacted me yesterday, I told him how no one on the Alpina forums values it above low £20s and also explained the risk of Rosslare valuing it at €40,000 if they get BMW to value it, which is likely what will happen. 36% of that would not be nice. He said he'd "ask the question" about the price again, haven't heard anything since.

Unless the price came well down to low £20s, i'm not sure it's a purchase worth the risk. I still think it would be worth that money, but the risk of anything happening the car be it through mechanical failure, traffic accident or criminality, dealing with an insurance claim would be a nightmare and the car would lose all value.

Voodoomelon you have to get that B7, rare as rocking horse poo, cool as fcuk and good residual value if a bit slow to sell. Please please please if you buy it let me have a drive.

Grand, make sure you use a capital V when you're making out the cheque to me for the €14k VRT bill. :P

I'd say it's the sort of purchase you'd regret tbh.

Alpina etc etc fair enough but it's huge money for a 13 year old car ......... 7 ers look like pieces of sh1t to most folk at that age.

And it's not selling over in the UK either, says a lot IMO.

just watched your DS7 drive video Mark.
Seems like a nice car but apparently only one dealer and I would put the depreciation at the very high end. Is it only available as a five seater too?
Take it you wouldn't buy one though?

assume you haven't purchased Voodoo any developments?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,661 ✭✭✭Voodoomelon

After much thinking, it was frankly too risky a financial proposition, i'm not sure i'd be able to enjoy it for fear of any number of things happening it. I have JKC BMW up north looking for a 740e/740Li for me in the spec and year I asked for so will see how that goes.

I think they’ll be getting more dealers but it’s Airside for the moment only. Don’t think there’s a 7 seater. Depreciation could be a big factor alright, they’ve put an unlimited 5 year warranty of them. Company car option they would be interesting.

The problem with company car customers is that the heavy depreciation is factored into the monthly leasing costs which would probably not go down well with company bean counters.

Just watched it as well.... gave it a thumbs up :)

Surely it's an X3 competitor and you'd get a well specced one if them for way less then the 80/90/100k price point ?

And, it's front wheel drive ? You seemed mightily impressed with the small transmission tunnel ?

    :)

Ha, it makes a big difference for rear passengers I find. You’d want to be brave but it’s a lot of spec for €49,000. It doesn’t feel unlike the 5008 though and one of them won’t cost you anything like nearly 50k!

To me it’s in a similar position to the buying an Alfa Romeo Giulia/Stelvio debate.
No premium dealer experience and uncertainty down the road with depreciation and possibly dealer experience if things go wrong.
That said a one year old demo with a fair chunk of discount could be a good buy if you liked it a lot.

I think it's ridiculously close to being a Peugeot 5008.
Like, Lexus have actually different cars to Toyota....the ds7 just seems rebadged (maybe it's not but.....) after throwing extras at it.

I had a 5008 for a few days last summer, grand bus to be fair etc etc

    Thoughts on this please?

Serious back issues in my car, so much so I'm driving my missus Tucson at the mo.

Drastically overpriced new imo and that one looks priced very steeply for a 6 year old one.
You'd get loads more SUV for similar money
