Transferring files directly between two USB devices

Hi

I have a Samsung galaxy s8 plus and would like to transfer photos from my camera sd card directly to a USB ssd storage device when in vacation using the Samsung galaxy s8 plus.

The only method I am aware of which will work is to firstly connect the sd card to the phone and copy the photos to the phone. Then connect the external ssd drive to the phone and copy the photos to that from the phone.

I would like to avoid this two step approach and transfer the photos directly from the sd card to the external USB ssd storage with the help of the Samsung galaxy s8 plus.

Is there a way in which 8 can achieve this? I have a USB c hub which I can attach to the galaxy s8 plus and then connect the external ssd USB c storage to that as well as the sd card from my camera but this doesn't seem to allow me to copy between this two devices. Perhaps there is a special app that I need for this? Thanks!

I don’t know if your phone can power the ssd drive but I have a solution that copy’s them directly from the phone to a usb memory stick using this cable.

That same cable can be used to transfer pics from my DSLR Camera to my phone if I want to send them straight away.

Maybe a "Google Photo Account" if you don't mind ceding some rights to Google.
Backs up photos to cloud you can then "share" to any other location.

I use Google Photos too but data charges in some countries outside the EU are crazy hence the need for a local backup.

Thanks for the replies but I think my initial post may have been misunderstood.

I have photos on a sd card from my camera and want to transfer these to my external ssd storage drive. I only have my Samsung galaxy s8 plus with me on vacation together with a USB c hub which can be plugged into the phone.

The sd card slot on the phone itself cannot be used as I have and using two sim cards. Therefore, what I can do is use the USB c hub and plug the ssd drive and sd card into this and then connect the whole hub to the phone.

However, in order to transfer photos from the sd card to the external ssd, I need to firstly transfer them to the phone and then from phone to the ssd storage.

I want to know if there is a way to use the phone to transfer the photos directly between the external sd card and the external ssd storage using the USB c hub connected to the phone.

Do I need a special app for this and perhaps do I need to connect the USB c hub to a separate power outlet?

Would you consider using something like a type-C USB drive? If 128GB was enough.

It maybe a limitation of your device/rom that it can only access one usb drive on the hub at a time.

Solid Explorer App allowed me to see both a hard drive and sdcard (in reader) in a powered hub, attached to Redmi Note 3 (PE Pie rom).

Didn't try transferring files. But in theory it should work.

I will try that as test also and edit this post.

Edit: - Test the above and was able to transfer a file, without having to put it on my phone first. I have a cheap Advent hub.

So it is probably a limitation of your Phone/Rom or even the Hub that is not allowing you to do the same. Also try the solid app?

Nice multi function product, was on the look out for something similar before to transfer data from phone to USB devices without using OTG cables etc.

As it has a powerbank, another product they won't ship to Ireland, due to flight regulations on batteries?. Which is strange because I have got two batteries from china delivered to me during the year (RN3 and Nexus 9 replacements).

Parcel Motel/Address Pal etc, to rescue for anyone ordering from amazon.

Yeah, not sure what's going on with Amazon UK to Ireland at the minute. No doubt that would be possible to get from ebay, or similar one from a Chinese store.
And as you mentioned, PW/PM/AP/PC - some won't deliver to Northern Ireland either.

I can not believe, I haven't heard about this 2015/2016 piece of tech before now.

It is also possible to flash OpenWrt firmware on it as well, but I believe, you loose the file storage functions of the device. Backup current firmware first.

Ordered two of the cheap alternative adapters, but shipment was canceled on it. Open a dispute today and it was settled nearly straight away.
