I'd be surprised if the traveller man made the chips. Their culture wouldn't lend itself to men doing that kind of stuff.

    Cooking would be women's work.

I was thinking that too, I really cant imagine traveller men cooking for themselves or their wives, it seems to be a very traditional culture. The women look after the caravan and the children and the men, well, not sure what the men do but it doesnt involve paid employment for the most part.

She was talking about the car bomb when she said that, I don't think there was a car bomb in Edenderry.
She makes many posts in support of what's left of the IRA.

I nearly fell off my chair. Did the RTE news person say “I’d be concerned if there was a planning application for a halting site near me”?? That is a brave thing for her to say.

I think she was saying it in a hypothetical kind of way.
I was half listening something about it being equivalent to the deaths of 1500 settled people in one accident and that they should have a day of national mourning. Or something to that effect.

    I laughed at that

So the jist of it is that councils have to implement fire safety standards.....

Can I have some free checks done on my home when I get it, will the council supply me with smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, fire extinguishers and emergency lighting......

Will they in their fcuking sh1te.....

That's the gist of it , yes. If its supplied by the council they have to ..and provide adequate fire training, and fire stops. As I said all along.

How happy would you be to be housed in a fire trap of a house by the council?

Free house? I'd take my chances.
It was the equivalent of the settled community losing 1500 people in a single accident.
No discussion on it being caused by various drunks cooking chips at 2 am and falling asleep.

This is the kind of lack of proper questioning I was talking about when we discussed that RTE traveller documentary. Fair enough its a tragedy and there is something to be said for taking it easy but to allow Collins to talk sh*t like that and not say anything or question anything properly is awful journalism and typical of the soft stance RTE like to take.

Wow. Not a full stop to be seen for miles.

Must be nice for herself and Mags to be able to hang out midday on a Wednesday. Can't remember the last time I hung out with my friends midday on a Wednesday. Then again I can't remember the last time my friends put details of a stabbing online. Different strokes...

It has full stops, commas, and apostrophes. She definitely did not write that.

    This.

I was half asleep listening to Morning Ireland today, but even so couldn't help but note the difference between the interview with the traveller spokesman and the minister for agriculture (Creed?) who got asked again, and again, and again, and again, and AGAIN what about a no-deal Brexit.

I agree with the poster above that there has been a tragedy, and a certain sensitivity should be observed, but the spokesman should be asked the questions. But (from what I remember) he was given free reign to ramble on and on, and dissemble, and not address the issue of personal responsibility in any way.

Especially given the verdict of misadventure in all deaths, this is a big question.

A padded room seems to be the only logical answer as anything else seems to cause harm to a traveller and it's everyone else's fault no matter what....

If I rent a house privately, what obligation is there on the landlord to provide me with adequate fire training? The answer is none.

If I am a Council house tenant, what obligation is there on the Council to provide me with adequate fire training? The answer is none.

If I'm a traveller in a caravan on a site, what obligation is there on the Council to provide me with adequate fire training? Answers on a postcard please????

Also, once trained, how difficult is it to actually put your training into operation when you are unconscious as a result of drink and drugs?

There is such a thing as personal responsibility. The Council can't be responsible for everything.

They will require a fire appliance, ambulance and medical air ambulance at all times at each site.

Even if they were in an igloo they would probably find a way of setting it on fire.

but but but it's the gubbermint and the councils fault

“We’re upset that we’ve lost members of our community in a tragedy that could have been avoided.”

    https://www.irishexaminer.com/breakingnews/ireland/there-have-been-other-fires-since-carrickmines-says-irish-traveller-movement-899480.html

Yes indeed it could have been avoided

First case don't feud with another family. Result = not having to move away

Second don't park so many caravans that near to each other

Thirdly don't get smashed and drugged up then operate a chip pan

Fourth and this is a lesson for the council apply the trespass laws at all times. Get onto the gardai as soon as any famalies hitch up somewhere they shouldn't be

Don't allow them to stay in temporary accommodation ever

They must have a cook and canteen facility provided.

It's just my opinion but if your old enough to drink, have a family, live by yourself, etc. You should know the basic steps about preparing the house before you go to bed. Without a lesson.
Now I get anybody can make a mistake but it's not anybody else fault if your deemed to be an independent living adult.
